"Alex! Time to get up for school!" My mum calls out. I groan and roll over.

"Five minutes!" I yell through the pillow.

"We've been over this. Don't make me pull you out of my bed myself." Mum warns. I groan again.

"I really don't feel well, Mum." I mumble as I stand up. She sighs.

"Fine. Only for today though." She mutters, obviously irritated. I smile.

"Thanks, Mum." I mumble before falling back asleep. I'm glad she let me stay in bed.

I wake up again and look at the time. 7:12. Not too bad.

I roll off of my bed, landing on the floor. I groan and stand up. Rubbing my eyes, I walk down the stairs and into the kitchen.

"Finally up, huh? Mum's going to kill you." My older brother, Dustin, smirks as he grabs an apple.

"Shut up, Dustin. I'm not in the mood." I grumble, stumbling over to the fridge and getting out the milk. He laughs.

"I can tell. Still upset after not getting the tickets to see that lame band?" he questions, a slight glare on is face. I stand up straight and glare back at him. His face quickly goes from teasing, to bright-red, meaning that he was trying to contain his laughter. I scowl.

"You are a terrible brother." I growl. His smile drops.

"Hey, now, we don't need any of that, do we? I'm a terrific brother! Who's the one who took the blame for breaking Mum and Dad's TV?" He asks.

"It was you who broke it." I say simply, walking over to the cupboard and getting myself a bowl.

"Fine. Who took the blame for leaving the sink running, which ended up flooding the first floor?" He asks.

"I did. I took the blame for YOUR mess." I say and get out the box of Lucky Charms.

"Dustin, leave Alex alone," Mum says as she walks into the kitchen. I look back at Dustin, smirking, before returning to making my cereal. "And Alex, what happened to five minutes? It turned into thirty minutes. You're not doing that again." Mum scolds. It was Dustin's turn to smirk at me. I shrug.

"You say that every day, Mum." Dustin reminds her.

"I know, I know, but this time, I mean it." Mum says sternly, waving the newspaper in my face.

"Okay, okay. Please get that out of my face." I say softly.

"Why so quiet?" Dustin taunts. I glare at him.

"Dustin, none of that." Mum orders, Dustin mimicking her. She glares at him.

"Sorry!" He says defensively, putting his hands up in surrender. Mum shakes her head and runs her hand through her hair, sighing lightly.

"Alex, hurry up and get ready. You're going to be late. And Dustin, get out of this house. Meaning, go to school." She looks at him, noticing that he hadn't moved and inch. "Now." She orders. He mumbles mockingly and walks out the front door, throwing the apple core away on the way. I stuff half my cereal in my face before running up the stairs.

I walk into my room and change into my normal everyday clothes. A colorful hoodie and some skinny jeans, and my favorite high-tops. No makeup and straight hair. Just the way I like it.
