You and Evan had been dating since high school, going to the same college and marrying as soon as you graduated. Now that you were expecting, Evan took it upon himself to give you a picture-perfect life.

He bought you a nice house in the suburbs, with a picket fence surrounding the backyard. You already had a dog, who had immediately fallen in love with the yard.

The two of you had recruited the help of your friends since high school to help decorate the nursery. Alana and Jared were painting the walls a light blue, while Connor helped your husband put together the crib.

"Fucking finally!" Connor exclaims, moving away from the crib.

Evan chuckles and gently shakes the crib, making sure it is stable. Alana and Jared finish their walls.

"Zoe and I made lunch," you say, looking around the newly painted room. "It looks good."

They file out of the room, leaving you alone with your husband. He wraps his arms around your stomach. "Connor got the crib."

"He did a good job."

He rests his head on your shoulder. "How are you doing?"

"He's been moving. A lot." You move his hands so that the rest over the baby.

"Hey, little one," Evan says. "Have you been bothering your mommy?"

You giggle and kiss the side of his head. "I think he's hungry."

He lets you go and follows you out of the room. "You are so certain we're having a boy."

"Mother's intuition," you respond, entering the kitchen. "Besides, your mom said she wanted a grandson."

Evan laughs and grabs plates for the two of you. "Well, your mom said she wants a granddaughter to make up for your teenage years."

"Well, I think it's a girl," Zoe interjects. "She's carrying high."

"I think it's a boy," Connor responds, earning a glare from his sister.

"We'll find out soon enough. Thank you all for helping. It means the world to us," you say, sitting at the table with the rest of them.

Evan sits next to you. "Really, we can't thank you enough."

"Lunch is all the thanks I need," Jared says, finishing his sandwich.

As the rest of you finish your meal, Connor gives Evan a small nod, and the two stand up at the same time.

"Where are you going?" You ask.

"Just a little surprise, doll," Evan answers, kissing the top of your head. "You're going to love it. Jared, are you going to help?"

Jared stands up quickly and follows the pair to the backyard. You attempt to follow them, but Zoe and Alana push you toward the front door. "Come on! Since you don't want a baby shower, we have to get you something."

By the time you get back from baby shopping, it's dark, and you want nothing more than to go to sleep. "Guys, this has been great, but I really just want to sleep," you confess as they gather the bags from the trunk.

"Don't you want to see what the guys were doing?"

"It'll be there in the morning," you say with a yawn.

You walk into the house, seeing the three sitting on the couch. "Let me help you, love," Evan says, rushing over to you. "Did you have fun?"

"Yeah," you lean against him. "I'm just so tired." You shake your head slightly and smile. "What were you up to?"

"Don't worry about it. It'll be there in the morning. Go ahead and get ready for bed. I'll be back in a minute." He quickly kisses you before heading back to the living room.

You hear a few muffled groans before the door closes. You smile to yourself when you hear the water turn on and the sound of dishes hitting the edge of the sink. Not too long after that, Evan walks into the room. "Still up?"

"Barely."

He climbs into bed next to you. "I just wanted to say goodnight to both of you."

"Goodnight. We love you." He kisses the top of your head before kissing your stomach.

"Love you, too."

As soon as you get out of the shower, Evan is pulling you to the backyard. You giggle at his antics, while you desperately try to tie your robe around yourself. "Evan! I'm not even dressed!"

"And still gorgeous! Close your eyes."

You roll your eyes at his antics but close your eyes anyway, going as far as putting your hands over your eyes. You hear him move around the yard. You hear the sound of your dog struggle against your husband and the sound of the leash closing.

"Okay. Open your eyes."

You gasp at the sight before you. There's a small dog house in the middle of the yard, painted the same colors as the structure in the tree. "Evan! This is wonderful!" You engulf him in a hug before pulling him to the tree. "I wanna see it!"

He laughs and follows you up into the treehouse. Inside, there's a small table with matching chairs.

"He's going to love it," you say, leaning into him.

"I know she is," he teases.
