Chapter 5

Walking back to Ming'er sitting at a table, I see another male figure dressed in white communicating with Ming'er and I sped up my pace towards him.

"Hey! Get away from him!" I hollered.

Ming'er noticed the sound of my voice and jumped up, holding a steamed bun in his hand. "Big sister! Look!"

"How did you-" Before I could finish my sentence, the male in white rose up and turned to face me. It was dark eyebrows again with his front strands of hair freely flowing in the wind.

"Dark eyebrows?" I said quietly to myself.

"Owl eyes?" He said in response.

Owl eyes. That's a new one. In my life, I've been known as pearl eyes or circle lenses girl due to the round shape of my eyes. But owl eyes was something new.

Chapter 6

Ignoring his comment, I said, "Ming'er, don't take anything from strangers no matter what."

"Stranger?" He sneered at me. "Do you really have to be like that miss? All I did was give him a steamed bun."

I looked at him with condescending eyes. We stared at each other until he finally got the message.

"Wait," He leaned towards me with a devilish smile, a smile that I want to knock off his face. "You thought that I put poison in the bun?"

"Or worse," I answered.

"But you saw me buying the steamed bun from the lady back there. How can I?" He said with an innocent appearance.

"It's a ten-minute walk between the food stall to here. Could be possible."

He leaned in even closer to me, practically invading my personal space. His playful eyes looked deep into mine as he studied my facial features. "You're right. As humans, we should always be doubtful. Doubt is what keeps us alive."

His voice was an interesting contrast to his dashing good looks and sophisticated posture. It was a voice that was rich and mellow, a voice that can both hum a baby to sleep and send fear to his enemies' spine at the same time.

His sudden intrude into my personal space sent me backing away from him. It had came to me that Ming'er should be returned to his mother's side who could protect him right this moment.

"I would've allowed you to purchase the steamed bun," Dark eyebrows said. "But it seemed as if you were short on money and I wanted to bring it to Ming'er as soon as possible."

That was his way of saying that I was financially broke.

"Thank you," I said sarcastically. "I'm sure you would've."
