When you grow up next to someone your whole life, you never stop to realize what that person could truly mean to you. You spend every waking second with them and then they become an international superstar who travels the world and all of sudden it hurts once they are gone.  I'm Macey Zaldana. I'm currently 23 years old and I was born and raised in Chesire, England. My neighbor and lifelong best friend just so happened to be THE Harry Styles. Crazy right?

Harry was that typical guy friend that you just can't stand in the beginning and then you become closer and closer and the next thing you know, he is out the door never to return again.

I will never forget the day his mum and me convinced him to tryout for the X-Factor. We joked about him getting his big break, but never in our wildest dreams did we think it would happen.

Following his journey as a pop star became difficult because I was still dealing with school, making sure my grades were good enough for the University I wanted to attend. Every once and a while I would get a text from him on set, asking if I was watching the show tonight or that he bought me tickets to see him live. I eventually lost touch because the next thing I knew, he was off on world tours and I was starting my first year at the University of Manchester.

Before I officially lost touch with Harry, I did get to meet the boys that made up One Direction. It was after they were eliminated, receiving 3rd place in that season of the X-Factor. In front of the boys, Harry and I acted as if we were never apart, but once the boys were no longer present, it's like we weren't present for each other.

I tried telling him how great University was and tried convincing him to come study with me, but he wanted to see where his career could go. I couldn't blame him, but in that moment it's like he tore my heart out and stomped on it.

I couldn't tell him after all these years, that he was the boy I loved. That I wanted him to choose me over everything else. That would have been so selfish of me.

The years went by and I watched my best friend transform from this boy with a dream, to a man with a lasting career. I saw him pursue what he was born for. I went to a few of his concerts because my roomies just adored his band, but I kept a low profile. I was that horrible friend who tried to take his dream away. He would probably never want to see me again.

Then it happened...in New York.
