We met at a party my friends were throwing and when she walked in, nothing else in the room mattered.
She was wearing gray jeans and a blueshirt, her dark hair in a messy bun. To me she was flawless.
I couldn't stop thinking about how beautiful she was.
Suddenly I knew I had to tell her. She was my best friend. Best friends don't keep secrets from each other.
I grabbed her hand and lead her into the next room.
I heard the words spill out of my mouth in a rush.
"I love you, diya.
And not just like friends. And I know you probably hate me now, but I have to tell you because you mean more than anything to me ."
She grabbed her hand out of mine.
"Nithya, honestly you really have no idea what the f--- you are saying," she said and walked away.
I was devastated. Losing her the second time was even harder.
One night, I poured my heart out to a high school acquaintance named Kiran, who told me the same thing had happened to her.
I felt flooded with relief knowing I wasn't the only girl who had fallen in love with her best friend. Kiran helped me immensely.
I felt really happy to be myself and be with someone who liked me back. I thought I was finally over Diya.
