During the week, Steph kept feeding me up with his lovey dovey Friday night date with Fred. She wouldn't stop flooding me with questions which answers I wasn't supposed to be knowledgeable about. How would I tell if it was okay for a couple to have a proper first date after they were officially dating? And how was I supposed to forecast if Fred was as excited as Steph was about the date?
It was the day. The day Steph was finally going to her first date. Fred dropped her off after school earlier that day and she squealed all the way from the front door to her room. I thought my eardrums were about to blow very soon. It was also the day I had appointed to meet Robert.
I was doing my after school routine - peacefully laying on my bed listening to some alternative music - when Steph broke into my room for the million time that week, bringing a huge pile of clothes in her arms and dropped it on my bed.
"Which of these is the best for me to wear?" she smiled and her wide eyes were uncomfortably looking at mine joyfully.
"Geez, Steph, I thought you were about to tell me to wash all this cause I ain't doing that." I motioned to the mess she caused on my bed in disgust.
"I don't give a shit about what you thought, I wanna know what you think." she emphasized on those verbs.
"Okay, I think you're a skanky little slut whose manner is like an arm of a snake."
"Fuck you, Janet," she hit me with a hanger she had in her hand, "just pick one dress that suits me the best."
I giggled at her pissed off look and her stuck out lower lip, she looked silly. I didn't want to ruin her look on her first date anyway so I pointed at a navy blue bodycon dress which had some fake gem embellishments around its front neck. She was satisfied enough by my choice and soon picked her dresses up and prepared herself.
Later that night at around 7.30, the noise of Fred's car engine was heard and seconds later, he knocked on our door. Steph was still getting ready while I was the only person whose position was the closest to the door.
"Wow, your face has got better." Fred greeted me as soon as he saw me opening the door.
I stood on my tip toe and pretended to look behind his back, "Where's that ho you made out to in the hallway?"
He gasped in panic and pushed me off. I smirked and mimicked the sliest look I could make.
"If you dare telling Steph about it," he pointed me right on my face, "you'll end up in ICU."
"Bring it." I replied.
Soon I heard Steph squealed from behind my back, "Please don't punch each other!"
"No, baby, I was just asking her if her bruise was okay." He lied.
I mouthed the word 'shit' behind Steph's back and caused Fred to bulge his eyes. Thank God they managed to leave as soon as possible because I couldn't stand having Fred's presence near me without wanting to screw his face off.
I was about to leave as soon as the clock struck 7.45 when Tia came out from her bedroom.
"Where are you goin in such time?" she asked. Her tone was never pleasing to my ear.
"Out." I didn't intend to reply any further.
"Yes, out, where else would you go? Just come back home in one damn piece." she gave up on asking me any further either. I laughed already in my mind.
"Bye, Mam."
I followed the path to the empty guesthouse they were at, I could say it was probably their basecamp. Suddenly a thought of Danny warning me not to meet Robert again blasted through my mind. I could feel my legs moved slower like a quintal of weight was tied upon my feet.
