Hi, I'm Perseus Jackson, son of Poseidon. Yes, THAT Poseidon. God of the seas and waters and horses and earthquakes...and well you get the idea. Anyways you can just call me Percy.

I am a sophomore at Half-Blood High, a school for Greek demigods like myself, located in Brooklyn. Don't even try to go look for it, it looks like any other high school and besides, it will only open up if you are a Demigod, half-mortal, half-God. I also have a super smart girlfriend named Annabeth Chase. She's a daughter of Athena.

Now, listen to me, being a Demigod is dangerous. We live each day in fear of dying a horrible and tragic death. So, if you think you might be a Demigod, close this app, delete it, and throw away your phone immediately because what in Hades' name are you doing with a phone?! Now if you're sure you're NOT a Demigod then keep reading. Now, on with the story!

I start to wake up to the sound of a loud, piercing beep. I roll over and cover my ears with a pillow. Beep. Beep. Beep. Nope, that isn't working. All I wanted to do was sleep 'till noon. But I knew couldn't because first of all, it's Monday which means it's a school day, and second of all I have like 3 super major tests. One for biology, one for history, and one for dance. Who knew dance could be so hard? Beep. Beep. Beep. I give in. I open my eyes. Everything's blurry at first, but as the golden light of the Manhattan morning sun shines through my windows, my eyes start to focus on the objects around me. The Joy Division poster, the various pictures of Annabeth and I, the painting Rachel Elizabeth Dare gave me for my birthday. It's a recreation of the Great Wave...but if Jackson Pollock painted it. I sit up, stretch, get up, walk to my closet, get dressed, and head over to the bathroom for my morning businesses.

"Percy! Hurry up or you're gonna be late for school!" yells my mother, Sally from the kitchen. I look at the clock. Holy Hades! 7:25?! I had to pick up Annabeth at her house like 25 minutes ago! She is going to be totally mad. I take one last look in the mirror. I adjust my uniform, comb my blue-black hair, grab my backpack and head out.

I walk into the kitchen and I see my Mom and her boyfriend, Paul Blofis, sitting at the kitchen table. The window is open and I can hear the faint sounds of cars honking. The busy New York city sounds are strangely comforting. I get a glance at the stove clock. It's well past 7:35. I let out a sigh. I guess I'll just meet her at school. The faint scent of blueberries and bacon make me start to drool and I let out a dreamy sigh. I guess since I didn't pick up Annabeth, I have some time to kill before school starts.

"Hey, mom!" I said, grabbing a plate of blueberry pancakes off the black countertop and adding in some 4 slices of bacon, some orange juice from the fridge and setting everything on the table across from Paul. "Good morning."

"Good morning, sweetie," begins my mom. "No Annabeth today?" she asks, closing the fridge door behind her and putting some orange slices and strawberries in a plate on the table. She sits down next to Paul and looks at me.

"I woke up super late. I think I'll just see her at school." I begin to reach for the syrup when my mom puts her hand on top of mine. Uh-oh. I take my hand back, not wanting syrup anymore.

"We need to talk." she says with her soft voice. Her ocean blue eyes were stern and serious. A look I've only seen one other time. The time she told me who I really was and who my real father was. 4 years ago.

"What is it?" I asked with a mouthful of pancakes, swallowing and preparing myself for the worst.

"We're moving," Paul said. His deep brown eyes shifting from me to my Mom then back to me.

Thank the Gods I swallowed the pancake just in time.

A million thoughts were going through my head. I couldn't move. I couldn't comprehend what they were saying. I didn't understand why or the reason why. I felt like I couldn't breathe. Why was moving affecting me so much? I couldn't get a single word out. I had so many questions and I couldn't ask them. I started hyperventilating. Was I having a panic attack?

"Percy, Percy, calm down!" said my Mom, getting up from her chair and getting me a brown paper bag from the drawer.

It took a couple seconds for me to be able to breathe normally again. And a couple more for my head to stop spinning at 100 miles an hour. I finally felt like I could get a question out. "Wh-where are we moving to?" I asked, weakly.

They looked at each other, worry spreading across their faces. "California," they said in unison.

I thought I was hearing things. I must have because they couldn't have said California...right?? Right??? I started hyperventilating again, this time, my vision started to blur and my head was pounding. She must know that California is one of the most dangerous places for a Demigod to live...right??? Right???

I managed to speak again. "California!?" I yelled. "Why are we moving to California?! That's on the other side of the country! Wh-what about school? My friends?" I sighed. "What about Annab-"

I was then cut off by a knock on the door.

"I'll get it," said my mom. She got up to answer the door.

"Paul, why are we moving?" I asked him. He just shook his head and went to get a refill on his coffee cup. He told me my Mom would explain more later.

I didn't want to ask what part of California we were moving to. I couldn't handle my heart sinking to my butt.  A little while later Annabeth walked into the kitchen with an semi-annoyed look on her face. I quickly got up out of my chair and walked over to her.

"Hey," I began. "I-I'm sorry. I woke up late, and I just figured we would meet up at school like last time," I apologized and offered her some food. She took a strawberry.

"Hi, Percy," she sighed, taking a bite out of the strawberry.

"Annabeth, honey, we have to tell you something," started my mom. Oh no. I motioned for her to stop but she continued. "We have some pretty important news."

"What news?" She queried. looking at my mom, Paul and then back to me.

My mom came closer to us. "Annabeth, we're moving to San Francisco at the end of the school year," she softly said.

I couldn't believe it. San Francisco? I didn't want to ask to what part of California we were moving to in fear of getting this exact response. I felt lightheaded. I guess mom really didn't know about Demigods and California or else we wouldn't be moving in the first place.

Then, Annabeth fainted.
