Josh and Kate came running outside to where we were sitting and I heard sirens in the distance. "Hanna are you alright?" Kate inquired. "Yes, i'm fine. It's just my stomach." I reply and try to stand. I wobble on my feet and Jacob rushes over to steady me. "Her mom isn't here yet. She is out of town for the night." Kate informed Jacob. "Ok, Hanna do you want me to take you home?" asked Jacob. "Yes please." I replied. Jacob walked me to his car and I climbed into the passenger seat. He started the engine and we got on the road. "I told you. I told you that being my friend was going to ruin things for you." I muttered. He sighs and shakes his head. "Hanna, there is no way you could have known what was going to happen tonight. And don't think for a second i'm leaving you after the other thing that happened." I still don't exactly know what was going on with the squirrel. Maybe it was just a prank. Yeah, that had to be it. Someone hid a speaker in the grass or something. "Hanna," Jacob started, pulling me out of my thoughts, "I had a really fun night tonight. And...." he hesitated, 'Oh no he is going to ask me out' I thought, "I really want to tell you something, something big. Something you won't believe. But i'm not sure you're ready to hear it." I'm not ready? After tonight, seeing a man get murdered and talking (Maybe) to a squirrel, what else have I got to lose? "You can tell me anything Jacob. That's what friends do. We listen to each other." he takes a deep breath as we pull into my driveway. "Are you sure?" he asks and looks into my eyes. Dang, those eyes will be the death of me someday. "I'm sure. What is it?" I ask. He fidgets his hands nervously and after what seems like hours, finally opens his mouth to speak. "Hanna, superpowers are real. And you have one. You can talk to animals." My heart skips a beat. "Wait, how do you know? How do you know for sure that superpowers are real?" I ask nervously. "Because I have one too."

I wake up early the next morning thinking everything was a dream and that I need to get ready for school. I put on some jeans and a t-shirt that says "don't push my buttons" and a controller next to it. I put on some converse and get ready to head out the door. It's a fifteen-minute walk from my house to the school, so I grab my backpack and head out the door. I start walking down the road and decide to cut through the park to save a few minutes. I start walking underneath my favorite tree in the park, a great big oak tree. As I walk under it, I hear a little voice that sounds familiar. "Hello again!" The voice said. 'Oh no,' I thought, 'not again. This is just a dream. This can't be real.' "Of course it's real silly! My name is Joy, and the organization sent me to get you used to your new powers." The squirrel from last night said. I looked down at her to where she was sitting on her back paws and looking up at me. Realizing that I didn't have a choice anymore, I bent down to let her onto my hand, so she could ride on my shoulder to school. This can't be happening. Superpowers only happen in comic books. And then there was Jacob. He has powers too? What is it? Are there others? What is this organization? My head was buzzing with questions, and I didn't hear Jacob walk up behind me. "BOO!" He shouted in my ear. I jumped a foot in the air and spun around to see who it was. "Jacob! You scared me half to death!" I exclaimed. "Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. You know this is the long way to school right?" "Yes, I know. I like taking this route to school because it's relaxing and there aren't any LOUD FRIENDS." I playfully shouted at him. He grinned and we started to walk down the winding path through the trees. "Jacob, I have a lot of questions about last night. And I know you probably don't want to talk about it, but I really..." "I know you have questions but i'll answer them later, after school." He interrupted. We walked in silence through the trees until we had the school in our sights. "I'll see you after school Hanna." He says as he walks off. Gee, thanks. That was great conversational skills, and i'm so impressed. The bell rings, and I walk up to the glass doors, and go in.
