Welcome to the first official news update for the Once Written account since the restructure took effect! I would like to thank all of our old members for sticking with us during the transition and downtime. I'd also like to welcome new and prospective members to look around at the changes and ask any questions you may have. I hope that you'll gain a better understanding of what we would like to accomplish here, after reading through this update.
First, here's what this news update is going to be concerning:
What's New?
Almost everything. We've reworked everything from top to bottom to ensure that it works more efficiently without losing its effectiveness. First, from name to overall design, we've simplified everything. In the previous restructuring attempt, things got a little confusing. I'd like to apologize for that. I rushed through it and didn't take enough time to explain and flesh out the ideas and, as a result, the group weaned in it's activity and viability. I take full responsibility for it as admin, and hope that I've rectified my mistakes in this newest version.
We are still a community based experience. The competition element has not returned, but the weekly and monthly word count/progress checks have. This time, you will be working directly with an assigned staff member. They will check in with you weekly (usually on Saturday or Sunday, depending on what is best for the two of you) to gauge your progress. On a monthly basis, they will see if you've accomplished the goal you set for yourself that month.
Positive progress will be rewarded with badges, stickers, awards, and more! As will consistent participation in group activities and discussions. Collect all of the badges or receive special mentions from your friends within the group and progress a rank. Max out your rankings and move up an entire bracket. With a new bracket comes new perks! You can learn more about the ranking and bracket system in the front of the Membership book.
Once Written has also extended its focus to officially cover publishing as another step in our experience. This means we would love to be a part of your journey from the first spark of your idea until it is out in the world of traditional or self-publishing! The resource guides are currently undergoing a face-lift as well and will include new subject matter. There will be a number of opportunities for members to be featured as guest writers for the guides. Currently, there are none posted, but we hope to rectify that within the next week or so.
The Once Written Publishing Guide is one of the first that I'd personally like to have completed. There are a number of current members who are either self-published, aiming for traditional publishing, or actively improving their current work to begin the process of publishing.
We've also introduced a number of new activities for members to engage in, including a new (non-mandatory) Book Club! Check out the new Intro book to get details on the rest! Book Club information will be posted soon, as well as the application to become a member.
What to Expect?
Structure, organization, and engaging activities. We hope to make Once Written more interactive and active in your writing journey. You can expect regular news updates, Writing Prompt Wednesdays, character chats, RPing and more. It is our goal to make Once Written a lively and entertaining group where you can get writing counsel and encouragement, as well as a place for you to enjoy some downtime.
We already have an encouraging and supportive community, and we hope to help that community grow and encompass more writers who need an environment like this. We are currently looking for six new members to complete our initial quota of 15 in total.
At this time, our current staff structure requires a few new additions to help cover any incoming workloads that naturally come from a larger group. If you are a current or prospective member, and are interested in becoming part of the Once Written Support Staff, please look over the Intro book to see what the job entails and send us a PM (or application for new/requesting members) and we will happily contact you soon with more info.
Unfortunately, the last thing you can expect, is a direct result of a more structured environment. With great moderation comes the emergence of consequences. Inactivity in the group may affect your experience negatively in the near future. Head over to the new Intro book and check out the new Rules & Guidelines pages to make sure you are well informed of the new policy changes that have gone into effect with this restructure.
What's First?
First and foremost, current members need to venture over to the members book and locate their new and improved profile page. Please verify that all the information included on this page is accurate. Any changes that need to be made to your current works, goals, genres, etc, needs to be directed to the Once Written account, or sent to a staff member via Discord or Wattpad PM. We want to make sure everyone is accurately represented so that they can receive the community support most appropriate to their needs.
After you've confirmed that your information is correct, send a PM to OnceWritten and we will pair you with your corresponding staff member. This is who you will report to for progress and goals. At which point, you can set up an ideal day and time to conduct the progress reports.
This will also be the person you speak with when you would like to send a sticker of support to another member. But remember, you have a limited number of stickers to share per week. Everything replenishes on Saturday evening @ 11:59 PM UTC.
Once you've established communication with your assigned staff member, it's business as usual. Feel free to contribute to the discussion on the official Wattpad thread, the discord channel, below in the comments section of this news post, or encourage your non-member friends to apply to the group.
CURRENTLY, WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING APPLICANTS WHO ARE NOT ACTIVE/POSTING ON WATTPAD. ALL PROGRESS MUST BE VERIFIED THROUGH WATTPAD AT THIS TIME. (LEGACY MEMBERS MAY CONTINUE WITH THEIR ORIGINAL METHODS)
Continue to make strides towards completing your goals and the first official progress check in will be this weekend. Members' progress will be recorded and celebrated on Sunday evening's news update!
I look forward to this fresh start with each of you and hope that we can make a better impression and impact on your writing journey this time around.
