I climb to the top of the shack and lay down on the roof. It's a small shack but the roof is big enough to fit two people. I begin staring at the stars when I hear something behind me. I sit up quickly and face the noise. I see two arms pulling themselves up onto the roof with me.
"Mind if I join ya?" A familiar southern deep voice asks shyly.
"Fine by me Daryl." I respond somewhat surprised. Ever since Beth died Daryl has pushed me out completely. It hurt, but that was just Daryl's way of coping with things.
He sits next to me and we both lay down once again staring into the night sky."What ya thinking' bout?" He asks boldly peering my way.
"Just everything. Beth. The past, now. I'm just
really unsure about us going up north but Rick just won't listen to me.""Well what's so wrong about goin' north?"
I let out a sigh before I speak, "it's just not a good area. There's really nothing left and what is left is horrible. There are some people but most of them are unsafe and the ones who were kind that I ran into are probably dead or have left by now."
He smirks.
"What?" I ask.
"Nothin' it's just, it still amazes me how ya made it here on your own."
"I told you I wasn't on my own the entire time-"
"Well ya got from there to Georgia alone right?"
"Yeah what's so weird about that?"
"What's so weird! I've seen grown men five times your size get torn to bits. And you being- Well you. Just show up one day. How did ya do it?"
"Very carefully." I explain, I hate talking about my past. I'd rather listen than talk. Daryl isn't one to talk about his either but that doesn't stop him from asking about mine.
"Well you better get some shut eye." Daryl suggests as I visibly roll my eyes, it's too dark for him to notice though.
"You know I don't sleep anymore. Nothing worth dreaming about."
"Well, you should at least try. It's gonna be a long day tomorrow and I'm not carrying your ass around." He jokes with a slight smirk that quickly disappears when the sound of groaning is heard.
"That don't sound like walkers." Daryl whispers as I begin to laugh.
"Glenn and Maggie must really be getting it on in there." I whisper awkwardly.
"Well it's the end of the world, and they already got one bun in the oven so hats off to them." Daryl responds.
"You've ever been in love?" I ask Daryl as I can physically feel him shift uncomfortably by my question.
"Nah. Just a few flings every now and then. Nothing serious. Merle got more of the girls."
I shiver at the mention of his deceased brother's name. Merle and I didn't really get off to a good start considering he kidnapped Glenn, Maggie, and I. He took us to Woodbury and let's just say he tried to do some not so consenting stuff to me.
"Mhm." I mumble trying to remove the intrusive thoughts from my head.
"Have you?" Daryl asks looking my way.
"Been in love? Once. I had a boyfriend before all this. We broke up before this all began. I was too unstable, always have been. But when shit hit the fan I kinda felt like I fit into this madness" I explain.
Don't get me wrong, I love talking to Daryl. I feel honored I'm one of the only ones he's open with besides occasionally Carol. It's nice to talk openly to someone and know they won't judge. But he's not the sappy kind of guy, so it's a bit strange at the same time getting into deep emotional conversations with him.
"Is that why you've got those scars on your wrist?"
"Let's just say I've been fighting monsters of my own way before I was fighting these shitheads."
I gesture to a biter coming towards us. I'd say leave it but the sound may attract more. Daryl takes one of his bows and leans off the side of the roof. The biter's sounds increase until he jams it directly through its head.
Silence once again when he returns back beside me. The silence isn't awkward, it's just a calming silence. The silence continues into the late hours of the night until I eventually hear Daryl begin to doze off. I stay awake on watch until sunrise.

Sorry this chapter may have been super boring but I promise things will get super intense and dramatic really soon. I just wanted to set up some back story before we get into the rest!
