"Alexandria where have you been, I've been looking everywhere" he said running into my room gasping for breath.
"Well I've been here" I said sarcastically pointing to the very spot i was sitting.
"Oh well I was wondering if you wanted to go out for ice cream or something" he asked rubbing the back of his neck, a nervous habit of his.
"Nah" I said not looking up from my sketch book.
"Oh" He frowned
"You sure?" he asked arching an eyebrow.
"Positive" i nodded.
"I think you're going to chage your mind" he smirked
"Is that so?" i smilled
He nodded near closer to my bed kneeling down so he was eye level with me. He smiled his warm breath fanning my face as he near closer, his lips brushing mine before meeting them in a sweet kiss.
"Now how about that ice cream"
"Alexandria? You there?" my best friend, Delilah, asked.
"Your thinking about him again, aren't you?" She said swinging slowly next to me.
"Yeah" I sighed in defeat
"Alexandria, you've gotta stop doing this to yourself" she said looking over at me with sympathetic blue eyes.
"I know" i frowned
"He left you, he left you and didn't look back and where is he now? probably fucking some bitch halfway across the world." she said before walking away.
"I know" I said walking beside her
There was a moment of silence before I asked the question that's been nagging at me for awhile now.
"Do you still talk to Michael" I asked tucking a strand of blonde hair behind my ear.
"No" she said kicking a small rock as we walked. I adjusted my beanie and continued down the cool Sydney streets alongside my best friend. As the conversation tapered off the house drew closer and before i knew it we were on the porch. I walked into the warm air of the house, taking off my coat, hanging it on the rack next to the door. Delilah was propped up on the couch scrolling through the channels when I turned around.
"Do you wanna watch tv?" She asked as I sat down on the couch.
I just nodded and turn my head towards the screen.
She scrolled through the channels when we finally decided to watch the notebook. I grabbed the blanket from the back of the couch a placed it on our laps.
---
The movie had finished and it was getting late. I walked upstairs and into Delilah's bathroom where I got changed into a pair of sweats and and old T-shirt, before braiding my hair. Walking down the stairs and back into the living room I retook my spot on the couch next to Delilah. She had changed the channel to what I think is the news. It was quiet depressing, a man killed his family, hurricanes taking people's homes. Honestly how do people watch this? I turned off the tv and turned to look at Delilah who was idly playing with her hands.
"You alright Del?" I asked.
"What? Oh yeah I'm fine" she smiled getting off the couch and making her way into the kitchen.
I followed slowly behind taking a seat at the counter as Delilah grabbed us some granola bars from the pantry. The sound of the front door unlocking and a pair of feet barreled down the hallway caught my attention before I was greeted by a pair of big blue eyes and a toothy grin.
"Alex!" She screech when she saw me.
"Jada!" I exclaimed scooping the toddler up. She screeched and giggled causing Delilah to peek her head out of the pantry a gronala bar sticking out of her mouth.
"Stop manhandling my sister" she scowled
I rolled my eyes reluctantly setting the 4 year old to her feet. She gave me another toothy grin before running out of the kitchen past Jonathan who stood in the doorway.
"Woah there squirt" He said as Jada sped past him. He chuckled watching his sister run upstairs before taking a seat next to me at the table.
"Hey Alexandria" he smiled.
"Hi" I said looking into his blue eyes. I looked over at Delilah who was busying herself around the kitchen peeking at us from the corner of her eye.
"Jonathan!" Delilah's mom,Lisa, called as she lugged in a handful of groceries. Delilah and I quickly rushed over to give her a hand.
"Sorry mom" he said kissing her cheek exiting the kitchen to get the rest out of the car.
"Thank you girls" she said unpacking the groceries.
Delilah and I started unpacking as Lisa took a seat and grilled us on the day's events.
"So what have you girls been up to?" she asked as we put the rest of the groceries away.
"we just got home from the park'" I shrugged handing Delilah a bag of Cheetos.
"Ooh fun" Lisa said
"Well we're gonna turn in for the night" Delilah said grabbing my hand dragging me upstairs.
We walked into her room where she shut the door and flopped onto her bed, her short blonde hair flying all over.
"What's up?" I asked skeptically sitting next to her.
"Nothing"
"Oh really?"
"Yeah. I'm fine" she smiled
"Mmmm" I said squinting my eyes, grabbing my tooth brush and paste heading into the bathroom.
On my way back to Delilah's room Jada stopped me, tugging on my pajama shorts .
"What's the matter sweetie?" I asked kneeling next to her.
"Will you read me a stowy?" Jada asked softly.
"Sure" I said picking her up, walking into her room where I set her on her bed. She reached under her pillow and pulled out the book I had read her so many times before. I took the book from her tiny hands and tucked her in before opening the book and reading.
About halfway through the book I heard soft snores escaping her tiny mouth. I pulled the blanket up and kissed her forehead laying the book on her nightstand before exiting the room quietly.
