Chapter 5: So Close.
“Hey wake up” Logan said shaking my shoulder making the thoughts in my head jump around like a ping pong ball.
“Hmm, leave me alone” I said smacking away his hand. Doesn’t he know not to wake a person when their sleeping.
“Come on we have to go, the trains going to take off again.”
“You suck” I groaned and let my eyes start to flutter open adjusting to the light.
“Why?”
“Because you woke me up” I lifted my head from the window wiping the dribble from my lips, I hope no one saw that, or that could have extremely embarrassing. Getting to my feet I grabbed my bag and stumbled behind Logan.
I walked out of the train tripping on the gap between the train and the platform, Logan spun around catching me before my face hit the ground.
I now understood why there were signs saying ‘mind the gap’.
“Do you just walk with your eyes closed or just drag your feet the whole time?” Logan said setting me back on my feet.
“I have just woken up and you expect me to walk straight, are you mentally insane or just stupid?”
“Geez someone is cranky when they get woken up” I was under the impression everyone gets a little cranky when someone shakes them awake but each to their own.
“Just shut up and walk” I said waving a hand and rubbing my eyes to get the sleep out of them.
I followed him out of the train station and down the road, I could smell the ocean from here and the squawking of seagulls echoed in my ears. I looked around and saw nothing familiar, where were we? I had been to the coast heaps of times during the school holidays and for schoolies week in year twelve but this wasn’t what I was what I expected.
“Where are we?”
“The coast”
“I am going to hit you if you don’t start answering me”
“I gave you an answer, next time ask better questions”
“Logan!”
“We’re in Florida.”
“What?!” I lived in Melbourne Australia, how did I even get into America?
“Yeah, I flew over dragging you but you got too heavy so we had to walk the rest of the way.” Oh great now we’re back to him calling me fat.
“You mean I have been in America this whole time and you didn’t think to tell me once?!” I stopped walking and suddenly realized that the cars were on the wrong side of the road. How did I not notice this before?! Idiot! Well in my defence I was more focused on escaping my kidnapper then which side of the road the cars were driving on.
“No because then you would have wanted to go sightseeing and I couldn’t be bothered fighting and… What?” he said staring at my blank faced expression.
“Nothing, I was just picturing all of the ways I could kill you right now.” At the top of my list was throwing him in front of a train or making him walk until his feet bleed and gave out on him, either one was cool with me.
I walked beside him down the road towards the docks. We stopped at a ship with a small plane on the deck of it. He stopped at the plane and leaned against it crossing his arms over his chest looking around.
“I take it this is the plane?” I questioned rising an eyebrow at him.
“Yep”
I looked it over shuttering at the thought of being in it. It looked like it had been tapped together using duct tape. Was this even safe to be this close too, let alone fly? It looked like it was going to blow any minute now.
