Chapter 8
Maybe If I hadn't murdered someone in cold blood today, I could have enjoyed the kiss. Maybe if Andreas hadn't been fresh on my mind, I would have lost myself in it. Maybe if I hadn't been utterly shocked, I would have responded to the kiss. As it turned out, all of these things had happened, and when Poseidon kissed me, all I could do was stand there helplessly confused. Perhaps that is why that instead of pushing him away, I was contemplating my surprise. I mean, I had been sort of, unintentionally leading him on; so shouldn't I have expected this? But I didn't and all I could do was stand there like an idiot while Poseidon feverishly attacked my mouth with his. When he finally gave up on my non responsive lips, he pulled away looking more that disappointed.
“Are you okay Izzy?” His tone was guarded and completely lacking his usual confidence. Was I okay? Nope. I was suddenly very not okay. Raw angst and rage burned in my veins, and at this moment he was the perfect target for it all. My elbow pulled back of it's own volition, swinging forward and taking my fist with it, a satisfying thump sounded when it made contact with Poseidon’s jaw.
“What the fuck, Isabella!”
“Don't ever do that again.” I tried to keep the venom out my voice seeing as he was rubbing his face in pain, but the anger was still there. It was mostly at myself for allowing him to think that this would be okay. “Now take me home.”
Without another word and a swift glare, Poseidon grabbed my arm rather roughly and suddenly our bodies began to fade away into a bright burst of white light. Hot was probably the most dominant feeling when we teleported, or whatever we did. It felt like the tips of my toes and fingers where being roasted and my blood boiled. When we finally appeared inside the throne room of the palace, I was soaking with sweat. My clothes and hair where drenched. Falling to my knees, I tried desperately to catch my breath. A panicked figure appeared beside me and was talking quickly. Unfortunately, I was incredibly dizzy and my hearing was going in and out so I only caught snippets of the conversation.
“What happened? Said the blurry figure.
“I brought her back.” Poseidon's voice was easily detected and he still sounded pissed.
Silence.
“Why didn't you warn her?” Blurry figure whom I could only assume was Hephaestus.
“I forgot.” Poseidon said nonchalantly.
“FORG-” Poseidon faded out again and didn't come back. The edges of my vision darkened. Thankfully I was already low to the ground when my face plummeted to the cool tile floors.
“IZZY! Wake up! IZZY!” I blinked a few times and found myself looking up at a canopy of trees, with an angel standing over me.
The forest was familiar. It was the one right outside the arena where we use to train at the mountain. The sun peaking threw the trees cast a glare over his face, but I knew it was still him. His voice always sent thrills threw my body. Right now he was kneeling beside me stroking my face with concern in his eyes. When my eyes began to focus, I sat up abruptly. My vision swam briefly before coming back into focus. Realizing I was more or less fine, a small smile formed on Andres' face.
