1972

I parked the car in the motel parking lot and all of the boys got out.

"Thank god were here!" Javier almost yelled as he got out of the van and went around back.

We had just arrived in L.A. after a nine hour drive to meet with a man named Keith Olsen. He had come up to the Bay Area to see our band play and he said he was interested in giving us a record deal with Polydor records. All of us were more than happy, and we all knew our band would make it.

Lindsey got out and grabbed our bags from the trunk and opened the door to our room.

None of the guys knew that we were together yet. Honestly we were scared to let them find out. Since we were staying together in a room, it would definitely raise suspicion.

"Stevie, why are you staying in the room with Lindsey?" Brian asked me quietly behind the car where no one could see us.

"I-I didn't want to stay alone... He offered." I bit my lip and hoped he would buy it.

"Oh, well that makes sense. Your mother doesn't know, does she?"

"Nah, I haven't talked to her in a while. Not since, like, I dropped out of college."

"Wow," Brian just stood there, and stared at the ground, "well don't tell her you're staying with Lindsey!" He winked cooly and walked away to get his things from the car.

I let out a sigh of relief and walked to our room and laid down on the bed and waited for Lindsey to come in for the night.

He walked in about a half hour later, with his usual joint hanging out of his mouth.

"Hey Steph," he greeted me, as he lay down on the bed next to me.

"Hi baby." I turned toward him and smiled.

"I'm beat. Nine ours of driving, god." He flopped down next to me and shut his eyes.

I rolled on top of him and kissed his lips.

"Baabe, we have this room to ourselves. For the whole night." I kissed him again.

"I knowwww. But Lindsey's sleepyyy." He whined, his eyes still closed.

I straddled him and unbuttoned his shirt slowly, as I gently placed light kisses down his chest.

"I don't think you quite understand what I mean" I whispered as I unbuckled his belt and slipped his jeans down.

Lindsey's eyes flew open and his hands instantly went to my hips, pushing up my baby doll dress. I then pulled his jeans completely off and let him pull my dress over my head so we were both fully exposed.

We let passion consume our bodies, but just as we had almost reached the breaking point, the phone rang.

It was Javier, he and the others we staying in the room next to us, and they had heard everything.

I sat up in panic as Lindsey tried to calm Javier down, but there was now a bond that had been severed. A promise broken.

When I joined the band, Bob, Lindsey, Javier, and Brian made a pact that no one would date me. It was nothing personal, we all knew what would happen if I became romantically involved.

The next morning we all met at Sound City, a small, rundown studio that was trying to make a comeback.

We played a few songs, but afterward Keith pulled me and Lindsey aside and told us that we had the most talent in the band. He wanted to sign us.

By that night, Fritz was no more. Lindsey and I had tried to be professional about it, but the guys wouldn't have it. We all drove home in silence, and awkwardly departed ways in San Francisco.

Now me and Lindsey were on our own.
