Let me introduce myself. My name is Raegan Matthews, I'm 17, and my parents dragged me to some small town in Virginia called Mystic Falls.

I've been forced to move four days before the start of Senior year and create a whole new life because my father decided to move closer to his "roots."

My dad is also a History freak/teacher and my mom is a nurse, so she's barely ever home.

It's my first day in this new town. I walk into a place called the Mystic Grill, scanning the scene before I enter.

I've never really been a people person, but I am good at small talk. I am also into underage drinking.

On my way to the bar I pass a few friendly faces, and a few hot ones. Oddly, even though I'm not a people person I still take into account everyone I pass.

There's a cute, muscular guy behind the bar with blonde hair and bright blue eyes. My guess is he's athletic.

There's a tan guy with dark hair, body kind of like the blonde, except he looks like he would tend to make an ass of himself.

There's also a younger looking boy by the bar, brown hair and a nice smile.

Then there's a group of girls, great.

One fair skinned blonde girl, who seems way too uppity for me. A brunette who probably gets all the guys, and a dark-skinned girl who looked more my speed. She looked like she could have fun, but she kept her distance.

As soon as I am arriving at the bar, I bump shoulders with a tall, gorgeous man. His jet-black hair and piercing blue eyes leave me frozen. His brows furrow as if he recognizes me, but the stranger shakes his head and continues walking.

I sit down at the bar and ask for a rum and coke. The bartenders name-tag read Matt.

"So, where'd you move from" He asks placing both his hands on the bar leaning forwards.

I nod my head and look down, "Pretty obvious, huh? I feel like I stick out like a sore thumb." I cross my arms and lean towards him a little. "I'm from Seattle Washington, just finished moving today."

He begins to make my drink, I'm surprised he hasn't asked for my ID.

"Well, new girl, you have a name?" He makes eye contact.

"My name's Raegan." I give him a soft smile.

"Well, Miss Raegan, I'm Matt. It's nice to meet you." He offers a smile in return.

"So, about that drink?" I ask with a laugh

Matt shakes his head and hands me the drink, with a finger to his lip signaling me to keep it our secret. The bar is not too busy as its noon on a Thursday, I decide to go out on a limb and talk to Matt.

"So, Matt, do you go to school around here?" God Rae, of course he does.

"Yeah, I go to Mystic Falls High," he chuckles, "I will be a senior this year. And yourself?" He asks.

"Um, same actually. I'm a little nervous to start next week. I know, well you, I guess." I tuck a strand of hair behind my ear as I look down.

"Gee thanks," he teases, "don't worry, I will be your friendly tour guide of the lovely town of Mystic Falls, if that's okay?" I nod and give him a small smile. Why do I keep smiling?

He seems sweet, a genuinely nice guy. Next thing I know the tan guy is beside me, leaned up against the bar.

"Wow, you are NOT from around here are you? I'm Tyler Lockwood. Nice to meet you." He emphasizes 'not' and looks me up and down. He puts his hand out for me to shake it, I politely go along with it.

"Geez Tyler don't scare the poor girl, she's only been in town for a few hours." Matt laughs from behind the bar.

"I'm Raegan, and no, I'm not from around here." I give a soft smile and sit there awkwardly.

"So, Raegan, there's a party tomorrow, kind of a back to school thing, if you will, and it's at my house, you should totally come." He states

"I can try, I guess." I say, not really knowing how to react to this.

"Perfect, I can work with that. Oh, and you can't miss the house, it belongs to the mayor." He winks and walks away.

I look at Matt and he rolls his eyes.

"I'm sorry about him. He's really a good guy, he just likes to be the first guy to "hit on" the ladies. He also, dates my sister on occasion." He sighs and rolls his eyes at the last part.

"Seems like a real winner." I joke and continue drinking my drink.

It's quiet between the two of us for a few moments, he walks and serves a few others who joined us at the bar. Within ten minutes he's lingering in front of me again.

"So, Mr. Tour guide, what time do you get out of here?" Woah Rae, slow down.

"I think I have about two hours left." He looks a little disappointed.

"Well, here is my number. I'll text you my address. Pick me up after you get off?" I go out on a limb for the first time in a while. Don't worry, I'm sure that will come out later, it always does.

Matt smiles and nods. I get up to lay the money on the bar for the drink.

"That one's on me, new girl." Matt smiles and goes back to work, leaving me smiling but nervous walking past that group of girls, and out the door.

On the walk home I get this eerie feeling I am being followed. Luckily my house is only a ten-minute walk from the center of town so I'm not forced to run, that would be a tragedy. As soon as I get to my front porch I hear the call of a crow and turn to see one sitting on the banister.

I make eye contact with the freaky thing and slowly enter my house, causing it to fly away.

Unfortunately, there isn't anyone home which isn't new. I go upstairs and try to look presentable for this little adventure with a new friend.

"Okay Rae. Don't go overboard. Yes, he's cute, but you just got here. Remember, trusting someone can get you hurt, so be cautious. Breathe. Everything's fine." I talk to myself in the bathroom, it's a little crazy, I know.

After a long enough time figuring my life out, I decide on a black t-shirt, skinny jeans and vans. It's casual enough. I spend too much time straightening my hair and touch up my makeup.

My phone buzzes from an unknown number.

"Hey new girl, it's Matt. I got off a little early, I'll be over in twenty? If that's okay. - Matt"

I respond, telling him that sounds good and immediately get a little nervous.

I decide to go sit on the front porch, to get a little air. But then that might seem a little too excited when he pulls up.

I settle for sitting on the couch, scrolling through my photos, missing the life I had back home.

My thoughts are interrupted by a knock on the door.

"Right on time." I answer jokingly.

"Well, you ready?" Matt smiles and motions towards his truck.

"As I'll ever be." He opens the door for me, which catches me off guard.

Next thing I know we're driving down the road laughing like we had been friends our entire lives.

Well Matt Donovan, you're officially the only friend I have in this town.
