alex's povBright light seeped through my eyelids as I opened my eyes, my mouth still filled with the taste of blood.
Must've used my magic.
Shit.
I quickly got up, scanning the damage. Aaron was gone, that's for sure. The couch was knocked down on its side and there was a very, very noticeable dent in the wall.
Hesitant, I laid my hand on the damaged wall, my eyes lighting a light lilac. As my hands glowed, the wall magically reverted back to its original state like the damage never happened. I pulled back, covering my mouth and coughing a bit more. Good thing the revert spell was First Level or I'm a goner.
"Look who's up."
I swiveled around to see Aaron leaning on the counter, pale and still holding his chest. I didn't say anything, looking away.
"You sure you don't need—"
"I'm heading back to my room." I said, cutting him off before limping away to my room, shutting the door loudly.april 24, 2042
"What?!" was the first thing I heard, jolting me up from my sleep, the pain from yesterday somewhat gone but still etched in my mind. I looked in both directions, before hearing muffled yelling downstairs in the foyer. Slipping something decent on, I lurked downstairs, hiding behind a pillar.
"Are you trying to taint the family name? What the hell are you thinking?" a deep voice bellowed. Something smashed on the ground.
"It's not like you're at home, anyways!" a feminine voice lashed back. "You're always think about work, reputations, money. Why can't you even think of your own son for once—"
"Our son is doing just fine. He will inherit the company one day, whether he likes it or not. Damned fool better repay me for giving what he has now."
"You're overworking him! He's in college!"
"And you're hurting him by bringing a lowlife in this house. "Prodigy" or not, he better be out of here by the afternoon."
I didn't bother listening to any more of it. I started to walk back up, before freezing immediately, my feet glowing an icy blue. I gulp.
"Hey, kid, you better stop snooping behind that pillar or I'll make sure to beat the shit out of you." the man snarled, approaching my hiding spot with his eyes lit the same color of blue. Great first impressions.
Smoothing my hair out and wiping the sweat from my face, I stand stoic, my feet still planted to the ground, my eyes locked on his. "Good day, Mr. Burr." I say with no hesitation, bowing my head slightly. "My name is Alexander Hamilton, and I am from the West Indies. I am deeply sorry for taking up space in your lovely household. Please forgive me."
Talking with formality wasn't something I liked to do, but I wasn't stupid enough to talk back to a menacing dude like him.
He gave me a cold look. Not good.
"I'll give you twenty-four hours. You better be out of this house by then, you jackass—"
"Hon, he has no place to go!" Aaron's mother said, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"I assume you would like to be kicked out of this house as well? Don't test me, Esther." She backs away defensively. I'm unfrozen.
And I'm not about to be kicked back into that HELL of a place. My fury takes over.
"We're not done yet, Mr. Burr." I said snidely, my polite tone now sarcastic. "Your wife chose for me to stay here. So I'm staying here."
His face twisted into disgust. "Excuse me, you prick?"
"If you're not satisfied then, how about a trade off?" I offer, throwing any source of common sense out the window. What the hell am I doing, trying to compromise with a dude that could, as of now, crush me?
But instead, he pauses. Forms a snide grin. "Playing games, boy? Alright, then. I'll let you stay in this house on one condition: Convince my son to drop out of college and become Vice President of my corporation."
"Vice President...?" I ask, dumbfounded. "Of what?"
"Oh, I must've not introduced myself." He clears his throat. "My name is Aaron Burr Sr., President of Mystica Corp, the largest magic-testing corporation in the world. My apologies."
I blink.
My eyes grow wide."Excuse me, what?"
