Kellen had chosen a racing game, the idiot. Alec was seething with anger and glaring at his pretend boyfriend from his spot beside him on the couch. After flipping a coin to decide which team chose the game Kellen boldly got up without even consulting Alec and picked a racing game out of the pile of multiplayer games lying on Bryce’s living room floor. Alec just about murdered him. Kellen was awful at racing games, and Bryce and Kyson knew it. It pissed Alec off so much to see the smug look on both of their faces. At this point even Alec was convinced they were going to lose. Don’t get him wrong the thought of ‘breaking up’ with Kellen was promising because it meant this bullshit charade was finally over… on the other hand however what would they do about their punishment? They couldn’t exactly tell the police that they’d lost a bet and that’s why they could no longer carry out their punishment. Yeah, that would go well. And on top of that there was no way he was losing to Bryce and his little minion.

When Kellen sat beside him with a calm smile it took all of Alec’s willpower not to reach over and strangle him. What was he thinking? He loved the kid but he could be so dumb sometimes. Whatever pride he had left over from what he felt when Kellen suggested the bet was now gone and replaced only with anger. But it was too late now to do anything about it because the game was already loading and the choice had been made. All Alec could do was glare silently from behind Kellen.

Noticing his anger Kellen just reached back and patted his knee whispering at him to ‘trust him’. And Alec did, honestly he did, most of the time. This was not one of those times because how could Alec trust him with the knowledge of how bad he was at racing games. Did he seriously think they could win this with just his skills?

“Okay so here is how this is going to work,” Bryce said from his position beside Kyson on the couch opposite to the one Alec and Kellen were in. “We’ll play in a race with four people. First place will be assigned four points, third place three and so on and so forth. We’ll play three races with three laps each and whichever team has the most amount of points by the end of that wins.”

Alec wanted to hit the smug look right off his face.

Bryce, as player one, selected the track and the settings and after all four cars were picked the countdown began and four people all leaned towards the screen simultaneously, ready to win. When the large green ‘GO’ illuminated the screen Alec accelerated and never looked back. He and Bryce were neck in neck and he was focused on his own screen but he could hear Kellen mumbling obscenities beside him as he hit into walls. He wasn’t paying attention to Kyson but from previously seeing him race he knew that the boy was probably doing decently.

Second lap and he was still in a deadlock with Bryce, no defined winner. Third lap and nothing much had changed. It wasn’t until the finish line was in sight and Alec was just starting to fall behind that Bryce hit a wall and Alec was able to take the win.

“Whoop!” he exclaimed and threw his arms up in the air. He could hear Bryce grumbling from the other side of the room. When the results came on screen Alec could see that Kellen had been last as expected and Kyson was in third place, crossing the finish line just a few seconds after them. They’d all had to wait for Kellen to finish.

The end of the first round left them tied but Alec didn’t have too much time to dwell on it because the second round was starting.

As the numbers counted down Bryce and Alec stared at each other with murderous glares. When the green ‘GO’ came on the screen both boys hit the acceleration and sped off. Before Alec could get too far somebody slammed into him from the side.

“Kellen!” he growled, quickly trying to right his car and follow after the now laughing Bryce. It was almost like Kellen was trying to sabotage them, even though he knew that he wasn’t really. Kellen was just genuinely bad at racing games. Alec supposed he could forgive him for crashing into him, if they won that is. He managed to pass Kyson and was right behind Bryce, praying he would hit a wall or something so that he could pass him and win.

Surprisingly Kyson was right behind him and Alec had to worry about dodging the other boy while still trying to stay caught up to Bryce. At the end of the round Bryce ended up winning, with Alec falling into second place, Kayson taking third and Kellen once again in last.

That left Kellen and Alec with nine points and Kyson and Bryce with ten. The fact that they were now winning made Alec’s blood boil.

Kellen gave him an apologetic look and Alec just shrugged. He couldn’t be too mad, especially not at Kellen because he couldn’t stay mad at him, but he didn’t want to give in and forgive him that easily. Especially because Kellen had cost them the round.

The third round began and Alec made an effort to tune everybody else out and focus on the race, and he was especially being careful to avoid Kellen’s car.

The race began the same as the first one did with Bryce and Alec once again neck in neck. Kyson was closer in this one then he had been in any of the others, so close in fact he was practically bumper to bumper with him, and it honestly surprised Alec but he didn’t have time to dwell on it. He was too focused on beating Bryce and unless Kyson passed them he wouldn’t let the fact that he was close distracted.

He could tell Bryce was as focused as he was by the clean way he drove, no trying to ram into him or sabotage him like he had tried to do in the first race. With both boys so focused there was no way either of them was going to mess up at this point so winning this race relied purely on who ended up being more in front of the other at the end.

Logically Alec knew that he couldn’t win this unless Kellen somehow managed to catch up to them all and end up in second but even with an overall loss there was no way he would give Bryce the satisfaction of winning again.

On their last loop Alec had accepted the fact that he and Kellen were going to lose but he was at least pretty confident that he could win this race.

With the finish line in sight Alec could see a car zoom past them out of the corner of his eyes. He had figured that it was Kyson finally passing them and was about to give up when he realized that it was actually Kellen’s car. He shook away his initial surprise and quickly accelerated his car again. He took advantage of Bryce and Kyson’s surprise to accelerate past them and after Kellen to the finish line. With the rush of adrenaline over and the results popping up on the screen Alec turned to look at the grinning Kellen with his mouth open.

The final score was sixteen them and thirteen Bryce and Kellen and Alec could hear Bryce smash his controller on the ground and yell “NO!”

The reaction woke the nearby sleeping Kale up and he looked up at the four boys questioningly, “What happened?” he asked, blinking sleep from his eyes and sitting up.

“Oh didn’t you hear?” Kellen asked with a pleasant smile that Alec knew could only mean trouble. “Your brother and Bryce are dating!”

The look on Kale’s face was priceless enough but it wasn’t until he screamed ‘what’ out loud and woke the others that Alec and Kellen doubled over in laughter.

Hopefully I did that math right because it's 1 AM and math is the last thing on my mind...
