Bu-Beep..... Bu-Beep..... Bu-Beep.....
The constant sound of a pulse rate monitor was all that could be heard in the white filled room. Early morning sunlight beamed into the room as a nurse made her way to the bed the pulse rate monitor was hooked up to. The nurse placed a glass of water on the table by the bed before leaving the room. Suddenly, an orange tail flicked up and over the side of the bed, resting on the railings as the owner of the tail began to wake.
Nick Wilde's eyes opened to the white room and the morning sun. He looked around, confused as to where he was. Then it all came flooding back.....
The Incisors
The Bank
Judy....
Nick instantly grew ten times colder as he recalled what happened to his best friend and partner. He reached for the buzzer for a nurse at the end of the bed but he instantly hissed after moving his arm towards it. He felt terrible pain, like something had come into his back and removed the top half of his spine and left an active grenade to replace it. Then Nick recalled more,
Oh right, I was stabbed...
Nick slowly began to roll over, careful not to cause more pain. He grabbed the buzzer and called for a nurse. The nurse who was seen earlier in the room just moments ago entered again. Nick began to lose his cool as he near shouted at the nurse.
"WHERE'S JUDY!? IS SHE OK?! PLEASE I HAVE TO KNOW!"
"It's alright, Mister Wilde. She had an operation to remove the bullet from her wound last night. Right now, she's resting. I'll bring her bed into your room."
The nurse left to bring Judy's bed into Nick's room. A couple of minutes passed and a bed with a sleeping bunny entered the room. The nurse gave Nick some pain killers and then left. Nick hopped out of bed and slowly made his way to Judy's bed. He watched as her chest slowly raised up and then sank. Realizing that he had the privacy of nobody being able to hear or see him, he decided to take a weight off his shoulders.
"I think I'm in love with you, Judy Hopps."
Just then, Judy's eyes fluttered open, revealing amethyst diamonds. She scanned the room before her eyes landed on Nick's face.
"Nick?"
Nick looked down at Judy, realizing she was awake. Then he realized what he said moments ago.
"Hi Judy, you didn't happen to hear me say anything as you woke up, right?"
"Um, no, I just woke to you half naked standing over my bed."
Just then Nick realized he was wearing nothing but a pair of boxer shorts. He blushed deeply as he attempted to rush back to his bed, his injured back making this difficult. He threw on a dressing gown which was hanging on the end of his bed. Judy smiled as Nick retrieved his dressing gown, however her smile instantly faded when she saw the deep wound and bloody bandages on Nick's back.
"Nick, your back!"
Judy felt a pang of guilt for the injury Nick sustained as Nick looked at his back in a nearby mirror.
"Yeah but you got shot, Judy. That's much worse."
Judy felt her stitches before realizing what Nick said. He used her real name so he must be sincere and worried. It wasn't often you could find Nick acting like that. Nick sat down on the end of Judy's bed before sighing.
"I'm sorry, Carrots."
"Sorry for what? It was my fault."
"No, I'm your partner. I should have been the one to be shot."
Nick's emerald eyes then landed on Judy's amethyst ones. Suddenly Judy's heart began to beat much faster as Nick began to pant slightly. Just has Nick began to close the distance between their lips, the door burst open.
"Officers Hopps and Wilde, I was told I would find you in her- oh, am I interrupting something?" Chief Bogo bellowed before inspecting the situation with his glasses.
"No, NO! Nothing going on here!" Judy quickly answered in a panicked tone. Judy nervously laughed as Nick suddenly found the blank wall much more interesting.
Putting on his glasses, Bogo started again. "Alright then, I'm here to let you know that both of you will be taken OFF the case of 'The Incisors' due to reckless endangerment and refusing to wait for back up. You have disappointed the precinct, myself and yourselves. You will also be staying at this hospital for the next week. I'm especially disappointed in you, Hopps. Dismissed."
Bogo left the hospital room, leaving Judy and Nick with shocked expressions. Then everything hit Judy like a train...
Taken off the case? I was taken off the case?!
Judy's breathing began to get restless and uneasy. Nick continued to stare blankly at the wall. Judy then burst into tears.
"How could I be so stupid! *Sob* I should have waited for back up like you said, Nick! I'm such a dumb bunny!"
Nick suddenly realized the situation and sat back down on Judy's bed as she sobbed into her pillow.
"Hey, hey, it's ok. You did what you thought at the time was the right thing to do. There's nothing to worry about; old buffalo buff probably just didn't want to see you get hurt."
"No! No I messed up bad and *sob* and I put loads of innocent mammals in danger!"
Judy continued to cry as Nick looked down at her sad form. Nick didn't have any control over what he did, he just did it. He hugged Judy's small frame and pecked her forehead. Nick whispered
"shhhh, it's not your fault, remember that."
Judy's ears were pressed against Nick's bare chest and could hear Nick's heartbeat, which was soothing to her. Slowly, she began to close her eyes. Nick then placed her out of his arms and into the bed where he would tuck her in, however Judy grabbed his arm and whispered "stay" with desperation. Nick removed his dressing gown so that he was in his boxer shorts only before cuddling up with Judy in her bed. Both mammals peacefully fell asleep in each other's arms.
I'm sorry for the short chapter, but hopefully if enough people want it, I can release part 4.
Yours,
Nil
