We waited another ten minutes before moving. I pulled out the first aid kit and began to work. Roselyn was in so much pain she was stiff, her eyes dulled. I popped three pain killers into the palm of my hand and gave it to Ray. "Make sure she eats them, I'm gonna have to sew up her leg."
I threaded the medical thread through the needle. I asked Leader to get water from the ocean. There was so much blood I couldn't even see where I needed to sew. I took a few deep calming breathes, sewing up skin scared me the most. The leg could get infected or not heal properly, so many bad outcomes.
"N-No, just wrap it, I don't need surgery," Rose gasped trying to back away from me.
I shook my head. "I'm sorry, it doesn't work like that. It won't heal unless I sew it back together. The pain killers should help-"
Roselyn was shaking, she had every right to be.
Cairo came back with the water. I stopped him before he poured it on. "Cairo, your parents did acupuncture, right?"
"Yes?" he asked confused. "But I highly doubt that it will help her."
"Do you know the nerve that knocks people out? Like in the movies when people chop at it?" I asked.
"A close quarter chop, I can try it," Cairo replied.
I turned to Rose and put a hand on her shoulder. "We will knock you out, you won't feel a thing."
Rose let out a small whimper but nodded Leader crouched down beside her. He swept her hair aside and pressed two fingers on the side of her throat. He gave me a concerned look. "If I use to much force, it could really hurt her."
"I trust you," I replied. I felt responsible for Rose's life, she was my best friend. She would die of blood loss if I couldn't operate soon.
Cairo reared his hand back and sliced at Rose's neck. Her head slumped to the side. Leader quickly checked her wrist for a pulse. "Alright it worked, go ahead. I'm not sure how long it will last but she will panic if she wakes up with a needle in her leg."
Ray helped wash off the blood. There were about two rows of razors. Ray had to constantly wipe blood off with a rag as it came. This is the first time any of us had gotten bit. The bites were about an inch and a half deep per fang.
I felt my head get dizzy as I stuck the needle into her skin. I forced myself to stay strong for Rose. I tried to focus on the number of cuts I finished. "Three... five... ten... twenty... forty... half way there." There were two rows of razors for teeth, she had cuts in two areas because its jaw unhinged so wide it was able to spread it out more.
Eventually I was done. I grabbed some gauze and wrap from the kit and began wrapping up the stitches. When I put the wrap back there was a little smear of blood from where I had touched it. Both of my hands were covered with blood.
When I decided Rose was in a stable condition, I staggered out of the cave. I fell to my knees on the edge of the shore. When I placed my bloody hands in the sand, the tide came and wash most of the blood off. By the second wave my hands were clean. I stared at the water, shivering. I could almost feel Rose's pain as the Cynoid sunk its fangs into her leg.
I threw up as the third wave came by. The tide took it away, thankfully. I collapsed on the sand, panting and staring up at the sky.
A shadow loomed over me, Leader looked concerned. He knelt beside me, dragging me further away from the tide. "Are you alright? I know that must have been rough, not many people have to stick a needle inside their best friend."
