                          Alex’s Pov

Denis and I were moving rooms. He wasn’t getting along with the other boys in this room. In fact he tried to start a fight with one. Luckily, I was there to stop him. Mr. Green- the one who takes care of all the boys in the orphanage- thought it would be best to move in the room where the seven and eight year olds are. He also decided to move Braden in too. We would only have to meet three new people. I sure hoped Mr. Green was right about this move.

Denis and I were scooping our clothes into our arms when he furrowed his eyebrows and said “Why does Mr. Green hate me?”

“He doesn’t hate you Denis,” I started, “he just thinks that moving rooms is going to be for the better.” Denis went back to piling his clothes. He was still frowning.

“Braden will be there,” I offered. Denis stood up with an armful of clothes. I did too.

“I guess you’re right,” he grumbled, making his way toward the open door.

“C’mon Dingo it’ll be fun!” I playfully bumped his shoulder.

He cracked a smile. “All right,” he said.

We found Braden carrying all his stuff outside of our new room. I could hear Denis laugh a little. Poor little Braden could hardly see over his stuff. “Hey Braden,” Denis said as he walked past him and toward the door of the room. I think Braden was a bit preoccupied to say something back. I stopped to let him put some of his things on mine. Once we looked up the door swung open, and standing there in the doorway were two boys that looked like copies of each other.

“Hi!” They exclamied in unison. I looked over at Braden who looked dumbfounded.

“My name’s Ethan,” said the one on the left.

“And I’m Elijah,” The one on the right said.

“We’re twins,” they both said quickly explaning.

“You guys look exactly alike!” Braden exclamied. “That’s so cool!”

“Yep.” Said Elijah. “So what are your names?”

Braden started. “I’m Braden!” he yelled. The twins laughed.

I was next. “Hi I’m Alex.” I expected Denis to go next but I didn’t hear him. I nudged him.

“Oh, I’m Denis,” he told them startled.
The twins moved from the doorway and let us into the room.

“Choose any open bed you want,” said a twin. Denis went straight for the bed that was the furthest away. Braden took the middle bed, and I got the one closest to the door. I dumped my stuff onto my bed and looked across the room. There was a boy in the bed, facing the wall. He looked lonely. I think Ethan must’ve caught me staring at him.

“That’s Sub,” he told me in a sad voice. “He doesn’t really talk. . . at all.”
I kept staring at him with concern. His back was still facing me. I turned to Ethan.

“Has he talked? Ever?” I asked.

Ethan shook his head. “Never.”

I took another look at his back and sighed. I haven’t even seen his face, yet I was feeling like I had to protect him.
Ethan noticed me staring once again because then he whispered,  “He’ll come around. He gets super shy around new people. He wasn’t very happy about you guys moving here.” Ethan looked at Sub and smiled. I smiled too.

Denis’s Pov

I was trying to make my bed while Braden was jumping between the three beds. I had to be fast considering a jumping Braden was going to mess it up again. I finally got the sheet on when a bag in the pile of my stuff caught my eye. I glanced around to make sure no one was watching. No one was, but Ethan and Elijah were jumping with Braden now. I looked down again st the bag I had used for running away. I’ve done it before. But I wasn’t that good at it before. Now though, I could pull it off. But I didn’t have a good reason to run. Not yet. But I know that I will.

“Incoming!” I heard someone yell just before they knocked me back and landed on top of me. Then I heard Braden’s giggle that only he could do. I was about to lift him off of me when I heard the twins yell, “Tackle him!”

Soon we were wrestling on the floor. We were rolling around, laugjing as Braden, Ethan, and Elijah were trying
to beat me.

Then we heard the door opening, and we all scrambled frantically at the sound. Unfortunately, we scrambled too frantically and tripoed all over each other.

“Boys!” Mr. Green boomed as he walked to the other side of the room.

“You are being far too incredibly l-” he stopped talking once he saw us. Mr. Green didn’t even get the chance to think of what to say next before before two boys came running in.

“There’s two people on the bathroom floor,” one panted.

“And I don’t think one of them is breathing!” the other one exclamied quickly. Not even a second later Mr. Green bolted out of the room. I pulled out of our tangled mess and scanned the room quickly.

“Where’s Alex?” I asked, my voice rising.

Ethan stood up on a bed. “And where’s Sub?”

I had a feeling I knew exactly where they are and I was already running for the door.
