His name is Bambi" The voice intoned, startling Halyn.

Her hand quickly dropped to her side before she turned around to face whoever it was that had interrupted the moment. Alluring pale green eyes met hers, catching her by surprise.

Captivated, she got lost in those depths and would have stayed entranced had the horse behind not let out a sound, breaking her out of the spell. Halyn looked away, chiding herself for staring like a fool and assumed a defensive stance, crossing her arms across her chest.

"I didn't ask what his name is. I already know because I named him." She coldly uttered with a cork of her head.
Dressed in a blue plaid flannel, jeans and boots, the stranger stood there, a bemusing smile coating his lips as he shook his head.

Halyn took him in, from the way he was dressed and how dishevelled he appeared, and quickly classified him as one of the many ranch hands she was yet to acquaint herself with.

"You must be Halyn, Chayton's daughter. It's a pleasure to meet you in person, your father used to talk so much about you. God rest his soul." The other party intoned, his words laced with a deep Western accent that couldn't be missed. He made his way towards her, his hands outstretched, ready to make her acquaintance but was met with a cold reception. Halyn coldly stared at the outstretched hand like it was the bane of her existence.

"It's Miss Halyn to you and I do not care for the fact that my father used to talk about me and it's not my pleasure to meet you. Who are you?" She spat out, her eyebrows farrowing in annoyance.

"I'm Kasey Weston, the foreman here." He redrew his hand and slightly tipped his hat to the twenty-eight-year-old, unfazed by her attitude.

"I see, Mr Weston. I guess you have been running things around here for the past five months?" She asked, going in for one more assessing look.

"Yes ma'am," Kasey replied, a broad smile in tow, which revealed the deep dimples that marred both his cheeks, something Halyn somehow found appealing.

"6:00 am, tomorrow 6:00 am I need you to gather all workers on the ranch for a brief meeting and introduction."

"Yes ma'am"

With a slight nod of her head to acknowledge his words she turned to leave, but not before she bid goodbye to the horse.  After a stroke and a quick whispered 'See you tomorrow Bambi,' she made her way past the towering man who stood there watching her every move with his hands nestled in his back pockets until she finally disappeared from the stables.

The false bravado she had so gallantly put on in front of Kasey left her with a deep breath once she was a distance away. She made her way inside the comfort of the house and felt she could finally relax but the approaching footsteps got her putting on a facade again. Halyn turned, only to find the man who had introduced himself as Kasey Weston sharing the same space as her.

"Why are you following me?" Halyn asked from the base of the stairs.
