The Ball
They had been in the car for only five minutes, but to her, it seemed like an eternity. She dreaded having to endure this uncomfortable atmosphere; sitting beside a guy she barely even knew, who had somehow become her date for the night.
"So, how long have you and Dana known each other for?", clearing his throat, as he tried to avoid the ongoing silence.
"Um, we went to the same high school in Australia, so it's been a while now", she responded, still finding it a little uneasy to feel decently comfortable with this kid.
"Oh, cool", his short response only made it the more awkward.
A few minutes had gone by, as she gratefully sat upright, noticing they had finally reached the destination.
"Let's see what this ball's all about then shall we?", he held his arm out for her to hook onto, as the pair walked towards the large victorian building towering over them.

As soon as they stepped foot into the venue, Cameron approached a large group of what seemed to be his friends.
They all looked fairly familiar to her, in fact, the closer they got, she knew exactly who these guys were.
She released a heavy sigh before putting an earnest smile on her face.
"Yo big daddy's in the house everyone", a tall, thin boy with dirty blonde hair called out, as him and Cameron pulled each other in for a hug.
The rest followed in suit, when a sudden smile formed on Ann's face seeing a more comfortably familiar face.
"Hey, there she is", the taller, tan, dark-haired boy approached her with a bright grin on his face.
"Jack!", she jumped up to him, hugging the boy with warmth.
She noticed the others fell at a pause, witnessing her long embrace with Jack.
Dana called out to her best friend, shoving her way through the crowd.
"Finally", she grabbed her.
"Oh yeah sorry, we stopped for gas on the way", Cameron butted in.
"Hey Ann!", the same dirty blonde appeared, holding his hand out, with a welcoming smile on his face, "I'm Matt".
Soon after, a few more of them started to introduce themselves, but she already knew who these people were.
They were escorted to a large round table, somehow it made room for the whole bunch. She fidgeted in her seat, feeling uneasy being surrounded by a group of people she barely even knew.
Dana's friends were not her friends, that's one thing to say.
