Fourth of July
"What do you think about Cameron?".
The girls prepped for the night, applying glitter and sparklers on their faces, adding a drizzle on their collar bones.
"He's cute, no doubt, but I don't know".
Dana furrowed her brows.
"What do you mean?", she asked.
Ann stared at her, as if she had just asked an illiterate question.
"Didn't you two have like a thing?", she snickered.
Dana rolled her eyes and groaned an extended and overly-dramatic 'oh my god'.
Ann clicked her tongue, letting her best friend see the face of disapproval.
"We were never serious, it was like a stupid little elementary-level crush", Dana explained, as she stressed that her and Cameron ended before it even started.
"Like he's obviously an attractive guy, and he seems nice, but I just got out of a relationship, like do I really want to move on before I can even let go of Finn?".
Dana paused. She gave Ann an apologetic look, knowing that pieces of her heart were still glued onto Finn.
"I understand, I do", she assured Ann.
"But at the same time, you're allowed to have a bit of fun", she smiled and winked at her, "And Cameron isn't like other guys, he's respectful and kind-hearted, trust me".
Her words somewhat gave Ann a sign of relief. Dana knew how she felt about these boys, but the way she talked about them, made it seem like they were genuinely good guys.
She thought why not give Cameron a chance? Besides, he did start to grow on her. He texted her after the ball to ask if she was feeling alright after the situation with Madison. It seemed sincere and given off with genuine concern.
"So you know how it's the fourth of July tonight?"
Dana cheekily shuffled closer towards Ann.
"And like, fireworks are gonna be up in the air, everyone's gonna be in that mood", she elongated her words, whilst rocking back and forth in her spot.
Ann arched her brows at the girl, questioning herself how she could be best friends with such a fool, but she loved her.
"Yeah?"
"Cam's doing this thing", Dana giggled, "Where we count down to midnight and you pretty much find the closest person to kiss", she brightly grinned, causing Ann to eye-roll her.
"That's stupid", Ann huffed, "What is this? New Years?".
"Come on, don't be a party pooper", Dana nudged her arm.
Ann scoffed at her, shaking her head back and forth. She knew exactly where Dana's devilish plans were heading, and there was absolutely no chance of her falling into that trap. Fourth of July kiss? Sounds just like an excuse for people to catch a sneaky hook-up.
