she's just a phase
——

silence is all that was spoken on the phone

jaehee knew at some point this call would happen. she wanted it to, obviously. but she didn't think it was ever going to be this fast

by this fast, meaning right after she closed the door behind her from the long conversation she had at jungkooks' apartment

but staring at her lock screen for a solid seven minutes, her thumb unconsciously decided to press call

honestly speaking, she knew seehyun would answer

the younger always had her difficulties sleeping at night and kept her phone on ringer just incase she got a text or call that could possibly help extract herself from her mixed thoughts

jaehee remembers the long nights she willingly sang her a lullaby just so she could distract her from whatever she was overthinking that night

it helped. she always slept right away, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough to keep seehyun from leaving

and that broke her

so when she got the news from taehyung after a week from her departure, just as the younger requested—he works with her at the same cafe—that seehyun flew to her grandparents place in france. jaehee  laughed hysterically thinking it was some kind of prank

but it wasn't, she really did leave her

jaehee would've noticed seehyun was gone earlier than that. but the day she left, was the same day jaehee had started her exams

the older usually sent a voice message everyday cheering seehyun up and telling her that she could answer her papers just as well. that all was sent whilst jaehee took a small break from studying

seehyun heard every voicemail but never replied. the black haired girl just shrugged her insecurities off and  thought it was because she was too busy

but she thought wrong

and now here she was, holding her phone by her ear at four am, simply listening to the soft breathing of one of her most cherished people

the taller wasn't mad or sad, not now at least. she always blamed herself for not acting lovingly enough so that seehyun could be comfortable enough to stay or talk to hear

instead seehyun was scared and that really hurt her

but after a month or two of crying in hoseoks room while he either listened to her in silence, comforted her or mainly gave her different perspectives to look at the whole situation

in the end she understood seehyun needed this, that she needed to escape

"i'm sorry," spoke the caramel haired girl. jaehee smiled at hearing her voice again "i know," she simply answered

weirdly enough, there was a small air of comfort. comfort in just hearing each other's voice again

"are you happy?" seehyun asked softly. the caller took a moment, she hesitated but decided to be truthful

the grip on her phone loosened "i am, i am now." now her dimples were visible

jaehee always thought that it was one thing to think you're happy and that you're fine but another where you actually say it out loud

she felt genuinely happy, free to say the least

"i'm glad," seehyun couldn't help but shed a tear, it wasn't because of sadness or self pity. all seehyun could manage to understand that if jaehee was happy, she was happy too

and this call, this call was their closure

i know this chapter is the shortest yet but i wanted it to be simple and focused about jaehee's and seehyun's past relationship
