"He does not belong with you, he has done nothing wrong." a soothing man's voice spoke in the dark.
"Well he doesn't belong with you either, he has done nothing good" A shrill voice answered him.
"We can't leave him in limbo, it would disrupt the balance." the soothing voice replied.
A man stood in a void, listening to the two voices, one was the voice of god who sat above him on a cloud. The other, Lucifer, who stood mid air next to the cloud.
God and Lucifer looked at the man. "Your name is John smith correct?" god asked. "You are the first neutral human we have met, you have done neither bad nor good. You do not belong in heaven nor hell, we have no place for you. We will allow you to chose your path" he continued without an answer.
Two paths appeared against the black abyss, one red, one white. The red went down and the white went up. John needed to pick heaven or hell. John looked from road to road, then to God and Lucifer. "What if I choose neither?" His voice echoed around him.
"You must choose one, your existence in the void will upset those who rest here. Angels, Demons and Horsemen alike come here for eternal rest. If you were to stay and wake them, you would be responsible for a terrible war. I would destroy earth, Heaven and Hell." Lucifer explained. "You may chose one, or the other. Once you have chosen, there you will stay."
John stood silently, he would not choose one or the other. He didn't belong in either, he already knew where he belonged. "If you would allow me to explain, I will not be choosing Heaven nor hell." John stood taller. God and Lucifer exchanged looks. "I know why I belong to neither. I am a neutral soul because I do not have a soul of my own. You two have caused many wars, plagues and other terrible things to happen on earth, killing people before their time. You have caused the Reapers a great deal of trouble, so in exchange for the hundreds you killed you must give up your own souls." John spoke loudly.
"No human can live without a soul" God stated quietly. He looked at John more closely. "You have two souls. Not one. You are not of earth, so state yourself soul bearer"
"You are correct mighty one, I am not of earth, nor heaven, nor hell. I hold the veil as my domain for I am death itself." John held his head high as smoke gathered around him, concealing him from God and Lucifer. The smoke dissipated, revealing 'John' in a cloak longer than he was tall. His size grew to that of God and a scythe rest in his skeletal hand. "You will bear me your souls or I will take them by force." His voice was dark and rasp.
"You have no right to take our souls, we are immortal." Lucifer spoke up.
"I have every right fallen angel. I control the balance of life and death, you have taken many which do not belong to you, for that you will pay with your own." Death pointed to Lucifer. "You have controlled lost souls and stolen them from heaven, ripped the veil and reaped souls from my domain. You are not immortal and do not deserve to be."
God's cloud fell from the sky and he stepped onto the dark abyss. His white robe falling against the black nothingness as if it were solid. The white path vanished as he pulled a blue light from his chest. "I have no desire to have it taken by force. If I killed as many people as you say, I do not deserve such a life." The blue orb floated to Death's Scythe and was absorbed. God fell lifelessly into the abyss.
"My father is weak! I will never give up my soul, it stays in hell, to rule sinners who belong there!" Lucifer yelled. "He does not deserve such a life because he gives it up so easily. I would-"
Lucifer's chest lit up as his soul forced its way out. Death held his Scythe pointed at Lucifer, drawing his soul away. Lucifer screamed, it echoed through the abyss. It was shrill and course. His soul exploded from his chest and was absorbed.
"You don't deserve to live, you have sinned more than anyone in hell. Your soul will be kept with me." Death whispered as Lucifer too, fell.
Death walked away from the red path as it vanished. A purple rip opened in the dark, Death glided through, into the veil. Leaving the angels and demons to rest with their creators.
"When one takes what is not theirs, they must give what they have to repent." He spoke into the darkness.
Prompt: It is the end of days, God and Lucifer stand before the last human being. You are the first neutral soul who is neither good or evil enough to pass into a afterlife and thus must be judged personally. Unknown to them, you are Death and have come for them instead.
