The cold wind whipped through me as if I were paper, I could barely see anything. My only hope was what looked like a building in the distance. I had my face turned to the side to try and keep the wind from freezing my eyes shut. The snow was knee deep where I was, wherever I was. I came up this mountain with three other researchers, we all had large packs, I lost mine a while ago. We were told that there was a base of operations at the top all ready for us, but they didn't tell us how far it was. The rest of my crew had fallen to the cold on the way up here, I felt as if I would be next.
My eyelids drooped from exhaustion, I fell to my knees. The snow around me barely seemed to change with all the new snow. The building looked so close now, but I couldn't go any farther. I saw three figures over the next hill before I fell the rest of the way into the snow.
I woke up in a warm room, the room was mostly metal with no windows. I sat up slowly as if I were half frozen, I was no longer cold but it seemed to have had a longer lasting effect on my limbs. I looked around, the room was dim, the only thing illuminating it was a green light above the door. The only thing in here was the metal bed I woke up on, it was attached to the wall. It seemed like this room was used as a prison cell. I stood up, I wobbled a bit but managed to find my balance. I took a step but I didn't hear my shoes make a sound. I looked down to find my clothes were changed. I now wore a dark blue shirt and pants and black shoes, I wondered where my clothes were, and all my research equipment. I walked over to the door and pressed a button on the wall that I assumed opened it. My assumption was right, the door opened with a slight suction sound that echoed through the hall.
I stepped out into the hall, it was even darker than the room, the light above the door was green on this side but it was much dimmer. The door slid closed behind me and emitted a loud beeping noise three times. The light turned off for a moment, I looked at the caged light. It only took a few seconds for it to turn back on, but when it did it was red. I saw a button on this side of the door and pressed it, the door stayed shut and beeped loudly. My heart started beating faster. I decided to find a different door, I turned and started down the small hallway.
I barely passed three doors when I heard someone else, but people don't have claws. It didn't sound far off, although I could tell the distinct sound of claws on metal. My heart raced, some lights turned on over my head, red and dim but enough to see. The lights turned on one by one down the hall until it showed what was making the noise. It was tall and thin, it's hands were like a dinosaur's, three long claws and one short one, it's legs bent twice most likely for jumping power. It was looking around like a blind mouse, moving slowly down the hall. I made a small squeak and it snapped it's head towards me. It screamed like a monster out of hell and started running, before I could move a door next to me opened and a hand covered my mouth and pulled me inside. Whoever grabbed me moved to the left of the door and kept us in the corner. The creature stopped by the door and stepped in, I held my breath as my heart raced in my chest. The creature stooped so close I could see its face, or the absence of one. It growled flicking its long forked tongue out of it mouth. Its head was round, the only thing on it was holes on each side and a large mouth. I heard a clinking noise down the hall and the creature turned towards it and lept out into the hall, slamming against the wall before running off. I could hear its scream the whole way.
The hand dropped and I let out my breath. I stepped away from the wall and looked at the person. It was a tall man with a rough beard, he wore a dark green outfit with the same shoes. He spoke in a whisper, his voice was hoarse. "That thing can only find you through sound so you have to be quiet. I've been here three weeks, I haven't found out much about this place but I know we are here to 'feed it' and we aren't the first." His voice cracked a few times.
"Are you a researcher?" I asked quietly. He nodded solemnly.
"I was coming here to the research center at the top of the mountain, I work for Adrienna Corp. Or worked for." He glanced down the hall. The creature was wandering the halls again, it seemed to know how to open doors. Its claws scratching at the door as it turned the knob. It was less than comforting to know that it can get in to any room. "I'm guessing your story is the same." He started out into the hall.
I followed him slowly, staring at the door where I last saw the creature. It looked like it was still in that room but I couldn't be sure. I noticed that the man was walking extremely slow, I looked at our shoes, when we took a slow step you couldn't hear our steps at all and they emitted a low green light.
We didn't walk for long but we finally arrived in a small kitchen, everything in it was metal. Silver counters and silver bowls all glowing red under the lights.
"Everything is metal because it causes the most noise. We have all the food and ingredients we need but it's hard to make food in metal bowls while being quiet." The man said. I looked around the room, everything was shiny even the floor. I noticed a few doors, some led to other halls, but one door was slightly open. I walked up to the door, a cold breeze drafted through. I pulled the door open a bit and was greeted with a gruesome scene.
A man lay on the floor, covered in blood. His body too mangled to tell who it was. I quickly shut the door. It slammed with a loud thud. The man who helped me turned and ran, his shoes echoed through the kitchen with a deep red light in his shoes.
I was frozen, the creature was faster than him and me. It stops in the doorway listening, even though it could hear the man's steps it didn't chase. It turned its head and looked directly at me. My heart raced in my chest. It felt like I was going to pass out. The creature slowly started towards me, taking its time and dragging its claws against the walls. I covered my ears as the sound screeched through the halls. I fell to my knees and screamed.
The screeching stopped. I looked up and the creature stood above me, tears dropped down my face. The creature opened its mouth like a snake. Within moments it moved backwards slightly. I held my breath hoping it would leave. After only a moment it kept at me with a loud screech and my world went black.
