The One

Thursday

There were thousand  of thoughts running through my head at the speed of light. The most prominent one being Ashton. The cancer was developing and there was nothing I could do. I wish I could take away even a fraction of the pain he was feeling.

It was as if my world was crashing down around me, the walls I had put up were cracking, leaving me vulnerable and defenceless. The barrier between me and everyone who had hurt me in the past, Anthony, was gone. I was susceptible to anyone's emotions and I didn't like it one bit.

In my peripheral vision I saw the door to Ashton's hospital room open, revealing a incredibly weak looking young man. It broke my heart to see him like this. The bags under his eyes were a dark shade of purple,like violets in a meadow. His cheeks pale as a sheet of paper.

"hey!" Ashton muttered, as he looked up at me his eyes filled with fear and love. A combination I had never seen before, it may have been a few days since we met but I loved him. I loved him with all my heart, there was no denying it I had never felt This way about anyone before.

"hey," I replied staring at him intently ",how are you ash?"

"Aside from the cancer? not bad  I guess!" He said! Stealing a line from my favourite book the fault in our stars.

"haha! On a serious note..." I trailed off, staring at his heart monitor. It was slowing down. Surely this is just a mistake? He can't be  dying  can he? They caught the cancer early! They said and I quote " After a few rounds of chemo he'll be as right as rain! "

The next few moments were a blur. Doctors ran In and out of the room, so did nurses. I sat solemnly in the corner praying he will  survive. Praying He would leave like everyone always does, without being able to tell him that... I love him.
