The half english, half Barbados daughter of the lord of Andles was awoken by a mysterious knock. It was well beyond the wee hours, and she got up with some morose.
'What is it,' she raised her voice, sleepy and drowsy.
'My lady,' said Doris quietly, 'we have received word.'
Cassandra leaped off her bed, and tiptoed toward her chamber door, as not to awake her parents.
'and?' she pressed her ears against the wood.
Dorris giggled. 'he is to come to London within a fortnight.'
'Yes?' Cassandra was getting impatient.
The servant girl shuffled the letter under the crack of the door.
'He has agreed to wed you,' Dorris let her know. 'You will be a wife to a Queen.'
Cassandra's melancholy vanished. 'then it has worked.'
