The mirror. Brielle's biggest nightmare. Sometimes she would sit in front of the mirror and point out every single flaw she could find. Find a way to contradict anything nice anyone has ever said about her with the simple glance in the mirror. She was an average size, healthy weight maybe a little on the heavy side but not to the point where it would be a concern. But still, it would take Brielle an extra 30 minutes in the morning to stare in the mirror and point out every imperfection she could find.

~Brielle~

"Brielle breakfast!" I hear my dad shout from downstairs. I take one last look at my appearance before sighing.

Baggy sweatpants to hide my legs. Long sleeve shirt to hide my arms. Hair down to hide my double chin.

I walk down the stairs turning the corner to see my dad with a small smile.

"First day of school! Are you excited?" He asks and I nod, letting off a smile. "I made your favorite. Pancakes." He smiles and I look down at the plate.

That's gonna go right to my thighs. My arms will only get bigger.

"Actually I already ate this morning dad I'm sorry. But I'll bring them for lunch?" I ask and he smiles walking to the counter to put them in a container.

"Thank you. Bye." I say before leaving to walk to school. On the way there I pour my lunch out into a random garbage can sighing to myself.

It's the start of my junior year. I can't be the fat girl that doesn't get invited to anything. Not again. Not this year.

"Bri?" I hear from behind me. I turn around to see one of my friends Charlotte approaching.

"Char! Oh my gosh!" I say engulfing her in a hug. We were the definition of the "good fake friends that are only friends during school"

"Oh my gosh Bri Bri how was your summer? Spill everything!" Charlotte squeals while we walk towards the main entrance.

"Same old same old. Small day trips and what not." I say and she nods, clearly not listening just eager to tell me about her summer.

Oh I already know what's coming

"Well I went to the states! I met so many hot guys there Bri it was amazing! I stayed in California pretty much the whole summer and I feel like I really have a connection there. Like I'm a Cali girl ya know?" She says and I nod, not really understanding but giving the support she needed.

"Hey Charlotte! Hey Bri." I hear a deep voice say from beside me. I turn to see Luke. Captain of the hockey team, amazing body, and one of the most popular kids in our grade.

"Hi Luke!" Charlotte says and I just reply with a smile.

"So I'm throwing at my place tonight. I know it's like the first night of our junior year so I thought why not eh? So you down?" He asks and I turn to Charlotte. She eagerly nods her head so I shrug.

"Yea. Text me the details." I say and Luke smirks and nods before walking off.

"Oh my gosh Bri he was totally flirting with you! Ugh I can't believe you had a major glow up over summer break. Now I have competition." She jokes and I laugh. When we get inside I'm already overwhelmed by all of my peers. For being around them the past two years I'm still not used to them. Charlotte finds her real friends and scurries off while I walk off to my first period class. I see people waiting outside so I stand leaning against a locker, tapping away at my phone to my friend Kelly.

To Kelly: Can't believe we have literally no classes together :(

From Kelly: ik! Like wtf! Hate this goddamn school

To Kelly: lmao. See you in algebra?

From Kelly: ugh if I make it that long! I'm already exhausted.

I chuckle at the text before feeling someone in front of me. I look up to see my good friend Brett.

"Brett! Are you in this class?" I ask and he nods.

"Yeah! Wow this is like the first year we've ever had classes together eh?" He says and I roll my eyes.

"Yea. It's like this school wants everyone to be miserable. Oh except for them of course." I say motioning towards Charlotte and her posey.

Yes I'm friends with Charlotte and her posey but it's a fake high school friendship. They're the girls that always get their way, can never do wrong no matter what, and are perfection in everyone's eyes.

"Tell me about it. Like yea Sarah's hot as fuck but they're all annoying as hell." Brett says and I laugh as they walk over.

"Bri Bri!" They all say giving me hugs.

"Hey guys!" I smile, pretending to be interested in whatever they'll spew my way.

"So we talked to Luke and he's totally into you! You can thank me later." Brittany says and I furrow my eyebrows together.

"But I don't have any interest in Luke." I chuckle and Brittany gives me a 'wtf' look.

"Are you kidding me Bri? The captain of the hockey team wants to get in your pants and you're just going to let that opportunity slip right through your hands?" She says and I shrug.

"You know I'm not into meaningless hookups." I say quietly considering that's like the holy grail in my school. Amber scoffs and rolls her eyes.

"Ok but Luke is different." She says and I sigh.

"Alright I'll talk to him tonight." I say and they all squeal before saying bye and walking away. I turn to Brett with an annoyance expression.

"Fuck." I sigh to him and he shakes his head.

"Be careful around Luke. He'll take girls like you and snap them like twigs. Ya got it?" He says and I nod. "Also why do you look so exhausted?" He asks and I shrug.

"First day." I say and he nods. Our conversation is quickly ended by the bell.

"Well let's head in." Brett says before walking in.

My class all piles into the room and I take a seat in the back corner, immediately putting my one knee up to my chest and going on my phone. I wasn't very interested in who'd be in my class or anything so my phone came in handy.
