CHAPTER SIX.

IZUKU feels like he's in a fog days after he reads his mother's last words.

It explains so much and so little.

He's really not sure about what he's supposed to do, or say, or act. Toshinori noticed his strange his behavior—and God, that's so strange to think about, and so terrifying...

He writes down a list of bullet points on paper, because his mind is too full of information and he can't process it.

1) Hisashi Midoriya is not his biological father.

Which, all right, is shocking in and of itself, but compared to the half-dozen life-altering events that's occurred in the last six months, it's not earth shattering. Izuku's never really thought about him much anyway, other than vague memories of a smile and the keen feeling that he doesn't quite fit when his peers talked about their parents.

Of course, that was when he was young—before quirks were even a factor, and once his never developed, it became something that he didn't really notice anymore. He always had his mom, and he always thought she was better than six parents combined.

2) His mom asked Kacchan's mother to act in the capacity of guardianship.

Which Izuku has a difficult time picturing, but it's something that he can understand. She never really socialized very much, so it makes sense that she would ask Bakugou-san to be his guardian, despite how much Kacchan hates him.

But it's weird.

So very weird.

3) All for One is her father.

Izuku knew this already, but it's written there in her own handwriting. He spent months upset that she never told him a thing, and he never tried to understand why she wouldn't from her point of view.

Selfish isn't something Izuku would have considered himself to be, but clearly he is. He doesn't like it, and he keeps trying to pretend he's not, but there's no other way for him to describe how closed minded he had been.

4) All Might is his biological father.

This is the thing that's hardest to wrap his head around. All Might is his father. Yeah, Izuku has looked up to him for years, and he's always wanted to be just like him—a hero who saves people with a smile—but to think his mother actually dated All Might years ago is just... really wild, to be honest.

But that's not really the thing that's tripping him up. He's grown to consider Toshinori like a father, even if he hasn't really acknowledged it—and he means Toshinori, not just All Might, because All Might is an ideal, not a person. It was Toshinori who believed in him and gave him his quirk and stayed, an unwavering presence in his life like Kacchan and his mother. But he doesn't know what he's supposed to do now. Does he know he's his son or not? Did he recognize his mother?

Does he want him?

Izuku likes to think that he wouldn't have stuck around this long if he hadn't at least grown to consider him fondly, which he has, because that can't be faked. But Izuku's...

It's almost too farfetched. He just lost his mother. He couldn't have possibly gained a father.

Life doesn't work out that way.

"Is there something wrong? You look troubled."

Izuku blinks at Tokoyami, a little startled when his classmate—friend—sits down next to him and offers a cup of tea. He takes and sips at it automatically, humming at the taste. "Oh, I'm fine. Just thinking about something."
