CHAPTER FIVE.
GUARDIANSHIP is quietly transferred from Aizawa-sensei to Toshinori-san without any fanfare or announcements, which is exactly the way Izuku wanted it. Either everybody is used to the way Toshinori-san is affectionate toward him or nobody notices the way he ruffles his hair and smiles at him when Izuku goes toe to toe with Iida in today's History of Heroics debate.
"Well done today. Your defense has improved since you first started it." he tells him, after the bell rings and everyone gets out of their seats. Everyone crowds around Toshinori-san, distracting him with questions, but Izuku smiles. When he first got the news that they were going to debate different perspectives of Heroism fifty years ago, it had been more than a little terrifying.
Even though tends to mumble a lot (like, a lot a lot), Izuku didn't think he'd like public speaking very much at all. It turns out that he was wrong. He likes it very much—it's a lot of fun.
Kacchan scoffs. "Nerd," he snaps as he stomps past him to get to the pencil sharpener. Izuku's not sure if he imagined the fondness in his tone.
It feels better than it did, before. At least he likes his classes and nobody really talks to him about his mother or asks how was he doing. Even though they meant well, he hates it when they say that they know exactly how he's feeling—even though they didn't.
He doesn't like lying either.
Present Mic announces his presence to the entire class over the ringing bell, signaling the start of their English class.

"Have any of you heard about Aizawa-sensei?" Uraraka's voice is hushed-hushed, as if she's sharing a grand secret she's not supposed to know. She folds her hands over the textbook and leans forward in her chair.
"Please, let us not get off topic again." Iida pushes his glasses up and rubs his knuckles under his eyes. "We're supposed to be studying for our midterms."
Izuku surfaces from his notebook after he finishes writing down everything he can remember about the real world applications of trigonometric functions. "No? I haven't heard anything."
Iida sighs, resigned. Uraraka's eyes gleam.
"So, you know how it's time to meet up with our main advisors to select next semester's courses? When I walked into sensei's office after Midnight-sensei let me in, I saw him sleeping with his cat."
"What? No way!" Izuku leans forward. "Was the cat cute? I didn't even know teachers were allowed to bring their pets to school."
"Absolutely adorable," she says solemnly, as if they're talking about the effects of a natural disaster. "The cat was really fluffy, you know? Long haired, silvery. But that's not what's really interesting—the cat was playing with a ring."
"What?" Iida gasps, sitting up and leaning forward to. Izuku leans out of the way when his hands slam against the table, making the pencils and pens and erasers rattle. "He has a ring?"
Uraraka nods so fast Izuku's half afraid her head will snap off. "Yeah, yeah. It was loop to a chain around his neck. It looked like a wedding or engagement ring."
"I didn't know he was married." Izuku comments.
"There's a lot we don't know about our teachers or the pro heroes." Iida hums and sits back in his chair. "We should respect his privacy. He clearly doesn't want his relationships aired with the entire world."
"Oh, yes. Definitely."
"Not a peep will come from me," Izuku promises, miming zipping up his lips.
