【 LIFE IS ONLY A PATH FILLED WITH SUFFERING 】

According to legend, the peoples of the great continent are descended from the fairy ¹queen of the north and dragon king of the south.

This queen was a young, beautiful fairy who lived high in the misty mountains. She travelled to heal those who suffered because she was blessed with the gift of medicine and had a sympathetic heart. One day, a monster frightened her, so she turned into a phoenix to fly away.

The dragon king from the sea, seeing her in danger, grabbed a rock and killed the monster. When the fairy queen stopped to see who helped her, she turned back into a fairy and fell instantly in love with her benefactor.

They would marry and it would be the children of this union who would become the peoples of the Great Continent.

However, despite their love, she desired to be in the mountains again and he yearned for the sea. They separated, each taking half their children. The fairy queen and her children settled in mountainous highlands and the dragon king and his children lived in the south flatlands by the sea.

Thousands of years later, there were many countries coexisting, the two most important being the southern Kingdom of Lóng and the northern Kingdom of Tiên, whose royal lines were direct scions of the Dragon King and Fairy Queen.

The Lóng Kingdom was the largest of the many nations, powerful and expansionist, taking in many of the newer, smaller countries. While Tiên, though a smaller Kingdom in comparison had just as much influence, though not power, as it's counterpart.

"Still having back pains, grandmother?" A soft, feminine voice asked kindly to an elderly woman who had to sit down on the side of a shop stall in pain.

"Ah, if it isn't the Young Miss." The senior looked up to see a young girl, no elder than sixteen, wearing a wide, brimmed hat with a white gauze veil falling loosely behind, covering her hair. ²  Though her hair was covered, faint wisps of white could be seen peaking out as blue eyes looked worried.

"My back is fine, thanks to your medicine. It's only the amount of walking required to reach the market reminds me of how old I've gotten. In my youth, I didn't even break a sweat."

The girl's blue eyes changed from worried to laughter as she smiled. "Well, the capital is situated on the highest mountainous region of the continent. Even our air is thinner so you ought to be having some trouble catching your breath as quick."

"Hoho. I've been breathing in this useless air my entire life. I'll be fine there."

"Elder Sister!" Came a group of small children, running to greet her. The youngest one, a boy of four years, tugged on the end of her four-panel dress. "Can you play with us today at the festival?"

The girl gave them a doting smile. "I really am sorry, little ones. We're having a lunar new year banquet at home, so I have to hurry back."

"Young Miss!"
