I felt myself being sucked out from a silent darkness, shards of lights bolting past me growing in size as I felt the intense pain of air exploding into my lungs.
My back hit the ground with force almost releasing the new air that had just been inhaled into me.
I laid there slowly opened my eyes and focused as shapes of trees formed along with the colors of orange, red, brown and yellow leaves fluttering along the baring limbs. No doubt a sign that autumn was lurking.
Where the hell am I? I asked myself in thought as I sat up to look around. And why the hell am I naked?
With an arched brow my eyes looked up to the dreary sky. "Really? If this doesn't scream look I'm alive, nothing will.''
I stood to my feet when a noise from a nearby branch caught my attention. A brown bushy squirrel stared down at me. And not just down as in my eyes, but down as in studying my personal accommodations.
"Beat it, Skippy, these nuts are far to fetched for your feasty little eyes,'' I snapped waving the little nutjob off as I walked past it.
"I'm naked, in the middle of nowhere and no idea how long I've been dead...And... I felt the cool breeze brush against my bare skin and I realized something wasn't right. My dry tongue ached for something wet, my stomach growled in need of food. I craved food, not blood. What the hell was happening to me?
"I'm human!''
The walk to civilization seemed to go on for hours until finally I came to an opening out from the forest.
A small group of connected department stores followed by a Starbucks encircled a paved pathway off-ramped from a nearby highway. I walked towards the only flashing 'σρєи' sign displayed in the window of 'Scare U Stupid Costumes'.
"Great,'' I rolled my eyes annoyed, "Of all the stores to run into for clothing, this had to be the only one open.''
I pulled the door open, the overhead bells ringing as I made my way inside. The place was deserted with the exception of a young emo chick playing air guitar with skull printed headphones flattening her spiked black and white hair behind the counter. She didn't notice until I had no other choice but to pass her through the narrow walkway to a rack of hanging costumes. Her eyes popped open as she yanked her headphones off and said, "Hey, man, no shirt-shoes,'' her eyes glared down, "uh-or jeans, no service.''
"I'm not here for service, Cruelella, I'm here to cover my ass. Unless you want me to stand here naked in your presence. It wouldn't be the first time I've been asked.'' I smirked and leaned against the counter.
"I've got mace, man.'' She pulled out a can waving it into the air.
I almost tried to compell my way through the situation until I remembered being human that wasn't an option. "Listen, the faster you let me get what I need, the faster you can go back to your air guitar activities, or whatever the hell you were doing.''
She rolled her cat contact colored eyes, "Fine, get what you need, pay for it and get out.''
