Chapter 2- As I finally reached my silver Prius and yanked open the door, I felt a hand on my arm. I spun around, ready to punch the lights out of whoever wanted to make me later for work. Then I came face-to-face with Ferrari Man. Staring up at him and taking in his 6'4 frame of pure muscle, I concluded that punching was not an option.
"Hi," I said, hesitantly staring up into his beautiful eyes.
"Do you need a ride," He asked. What? Does he not see me getting into my vehicle as we speak?
"Um, no, I'm good," I confirm, "This is my car." As opposed to me opening the door of someone else's car. What a strange man.
"Yes, but...," He started, as I looked at him with a confused expression on my face,"Well, nevermind...".
"Okay," I said, "Well, goodbye then."
"If you need anything I'll be inside," He said with a knowing look.
"Thanks, I guess," I said as I slipped into my car and put the key in the ignition. I turned the key and the car made a horrible noise. I turned the key again and nothing happened.
"Ugh," I yelled out, "Why me?"
As I popped the hood and got out of the car, I realized that something was terribly wrong. Smoke was pouring out of the engine, so it definitly wasn't just a dead battery. I tried a couple of tricks that my mom taught me and checked the most obvious places for a problem. I jumped back into the drivers seat and tried to start it again. This time the engine made a loud grinding noise and then cut out.
I give up, I thought to myself. I am so late, I am for sure fired. Now what do I do? Marie is in Wisconsin, Jack just opened his shop, and all my other friends are probably already in the meeting at work! There are only two choices, I can call Triple-A and wait for two hours or the second choice which may result in me getting kidnapped or murdered.
The second choice it is, I think to myself as I close the hood and head back into the cafe.
I see him as soon as I walk into the cafe. Leaning agaist the counter, staring at me with a smirk on his face. He changed shirts, so he was no longer covered with hot chocolate. The waitress taps him on the shoulder and hands him his drink with a wink. He smiles back at her and walks up to me.
"So, Need a ride," He asks with that same wise look on his face. I can't help, but feel like he's one of those people that thinks he knows everything. From what I'm seeing he just may know everything.
"Ya," I admit, "My car won't start and I am extremely late for work."
"Okay," He said, "Let's go." With that, he started to walk towards the door.
"Wait, don't you need to tell your friends where you're going," I ask as I walk next to him. I look back at them and I'm shocked at what I see. They are both glarring at me with what seems to be fierce hatred. I look back up to Ferrari Man to see him studying my face.
"Don't worry about them," He says and looks forward, towards his beautiful car.
"Thank you so much for doing this," I say as I take out my phone, typing a message to Marie, Jack, and two of my friends from work. I include the license plate number of the ferrari and a description.
"By the way," I say, "What's your name?" I need to include it in the message just incase I'm kidnapped.
He chuckles, "I won't kidnap you, if that's what your worried about." He smiles down at me and opens the passenger door for me.
"My name is Nathan," He admits, slipping into the drivers seat, "Now are you going to get in?"
Well, maybe I should get a last name too...
Nathan gives me a look, as if reading my mind, and I slip into the car closing the door. I send the message including his name and say a prayer, hoping that this wasn't a mistake. "Well, baby doll," He starts, "You are in for quite a ride." He smirks and speeds out of the parking lot, his eyes becoming dark.
