My eyes could barely stay open as the TV blared on in the background. Maddie stifled a yawn. At 10 PM after a long day, both of us were exhausted. The lights being off didn't help.
"After tomorrow is when classes start." Maddie told me. Right. It's a Saturday night, and the horror of school starts on Monday. Well, it'll be pretty cool now that I'm here instead of back home.
"Yeah. Tomorrow we'll have to go over schedules." I told her. Her head bobbed wearily in agreement.
"I need to go to sleep," Maddie announced, wobbling a bit as she stood. "You stay up as long as you want, but I won't be waiting for you to go to breakfast." Maddie chuckled, letting me know she was joking and not that bad of a roommate.
"I'll probably go to bed soon as well." I agreed. "See ya."
"Goodnight," Maddie said, and exited our "living room". It was the main room of the large dorm, with a kitchenette off to the side. There was a little hallway with doors to the bathroom and our two bedrooms. There was a main closet next to the door, and then each bedroom had a personal closet. Turning off the TV, I walked down the hallway to the furthest door. Quietly, I closed the door behind me and sighed, looking around the room. Although it was dark, my eyes had adjusted and I could make out my closet door, my dresser, my desk, and my bed, as well as some other furniture I had put in.
I grabbed a purple short sleeved shirt and some black shorts from my dresser. I changed quietly, throwing the dirty clothes on the floor and promising myself I'd clean in the morning. After a couple seconds, I was asleep under my royal blue comforter.

I woke up with a start. There was a crash followed by an exasperated shout. "God dangit!" I heard Maddie yell. Smiling to myself, I followed the sounds out of my room and into the bathroom, where the door was wide open. I crossed my arms as I watched Maddie struggle.
"The stupid shower curtain!" She gasped, trying to keep herself from getting tangled. Laughing, I stepped forward and helped her.
"You didn't hang it correctly, did you?" I asked her. She looked up at the shower rod with an angry look in her eye.
"No, it's just cheap!" She defended herself. "I was brushing my teeth and it just fell!"
I arched an eyebrow, and helped hang it back up. It was a cute curtain. The pretty seafoam green matched the rugs we put on the white tiled floors. My toiletries were in the cupboards under the sink.
"Okay, well I'm gonna change and get ready now," I said, backing out of the bathroom. Maddi gave an enthusiastic wave goodbye as she closed the door. I chuckled to myself. Living with her would certainly be interesting.
Back in my room, I gathered my clothes from last night and tossed them in my white wicker hamper in my closet. I checked my phone for the weather. The temperature was not too bad for an early September morning.
I took out a half sleeved maroon v-neck and black capri leggings. I walked barefoot on the hardwood floors out into the bathroom, which was now empty. I brushed my teeth and my hair, and I washed my face and did my makeup in a natural look.
Leaving the bathroom, I saw Maddie packing her small bag. She was wearing dark ripped jeans and a pink and grey striped tank top with frills. She had on brown sandals, revealing her lilac painted toenails. Her fingernails matched.
"You better get ready for breakfast." She said. "The best food gets taken early and I'm in the mood for some waffles!"
"I'll be ready in a second, I just gotta grab some shoes and pack my bag." I told her. I went back into my room and put on some socks and packed a small brown bag with my phone, my new student ID, and my room key.
