Nico was pretty impressed by the huge castle and the land surrounding. Impressed, though. Not surprised.
He had known that it was quite a big place, built by four wizards in medieval times, so a big castle was not that surprising. What impressed him was the fact that the castle stood so tall and proud, even after all these years and a war. Sure, there must have been some repairs, but there had to be something to repair, and the castle had stood against all odds. It made him respect these funnily-dressed, wand-waving, pointy-hat-wearing wizards.
He mentally snorted and turned his attention back to his surroundings.
It seemed that they had reached the front door of the castle. As they got down from the carriage, they spotted a lady standing at the entrance, scanning the faces of the students passing by her.
Her eyes alighted on them and she called out, beckoning them closer. Turned out, she was there to greet the transfer students. Her name was Madam Hooch, she informed them. Nico instantly took a liking to her. She had a no-nonsense aura around her, which he could appreciate in a teacher.
They were led away from the wizards they had ridden with, to a smaller room, filled with eleven year old kids. Madam Hooch explained to them that, as they were new to the school, they had to be sorted into one of the four houses their new friends had told them about.
As they waited for they doors to open, a few ghosts flitted in and out. Nico guessed it was probably because of him. His father had warned him about the ghosts in this place, and had already given them a talking-to about behaving normally around him. But there was probably some lingering fear in their minds, what with him being the Ghost King and all.
At long last, the doors opened and they walked into what could only be the Great Hall they had been told about. As they walked down between the long tables and towards the podium at the end, Nico felt a bit nervous. Sure, this was just a quest. But for the next whole year this was going to be his life.
Not long after he had been issued the quest, Nico had received a message from his father. Apparently, Harry Potter, the guy on the train, had already killed the bad guy and Hades had been a bit late in issuing the quest. But Hecate had insisted upon the quest, claiming that something was not right, and therefore they had been sent to spend a year of school with the wizards.
Not that Nico was particularly mad about that. This year promised to be an exciting one.
Meanwhile, the younger students had been sorted, leaving the two of them standing alone. Apparently, transfer students were sorted after the younger ones. Soon enough, their names were called out.
"Di Angelo, Nico !"
Nico trudged forward to the stool and waited for the hat to drop onto his head. Apparently, the hat could read minds. After sifting through his mind, the hat called out his house.
"Gryffindor !"
There was some applause all around as Nico slipped off the stool and made his way to the house table. As far as he could remember, this house was for the brave people. Though the hat probably only put him here because he was supposed to stay with Harry Potter as much as he could.
"Solace, Will !"
Will was soon sorted into Gryffindor as well, resulting in some more applause. Clearly, it was a sort of tradition to greet new house members by applauding for them.
Nico wondered whether they would be as enthusiastic about him when they got to know him a bit more. He quickly shook that thought out of his head.
As the feast appeared on the tables, Nico felt quite sure that he could, indeed, be able to survive a school year at this place. At least he won't have to worry about starving to death.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After the sumptuous feast, they were herded to the Gryffindor Tower. Nico and Will would be studying in the eighth year, owing to complications which had prevented them from completing their schooling the previous year. The students found it a bit odd that two new students would be studying in an year which was not really an year. But, having complete trust in McGonagall, they let the matter rest.
The two demigods found their names on a plaque stuck to one of the many doors. The eighth years had been given special privileges, such as sharing one room between two people, as compensation for revoking their rights to play Quidditch, claiming that their age would give them an unfair advantage.
With the way it was phrased, most students felt they were old men already.
After unpacking their things, the boys decided to spend some time in the common room, chatting and catching up. They invited the two new students as well. But they politely declined, claiming to be tired after the long train ride, and retired to their room.
(Okay, and now they kiss and go to bed because I can't write kissing scenes. And remember, Nico is 14 and Will is 16. Their ages have been altered so they can fit in with the Eighth years.)
A/N : From now on their stories are going to merge, so no different chapters for different characters. Also, I changed the first chapter because we all know it was horrible. So please read it and comment how you feel about it. :)
The rainy season has started and it's getting colder. This is the time when I fall sick. Let's hope I don't, because if I do, I stay at home, and we need at least 75 % attendance to write our exam papers...or something like that.
