20 minutes later I parked outside the library; it was half an hour before closing time so there weren't many people there. Suddenly I began to regret m decision, I looked around, searching the symbols for any signs of danger. I began to relax when I didn't see anything.
The library was bright and well-lit, I stood in the entrance for a second; firstly hoping that Jakob was still here, secondly hoping that he'd be easy to find. I moved through the rows of books, paying them absolutely no attention whatsoever, but instead locking eyes with everyone there hoping that one of them would be Jakob. I was about to give up and leave when someone tapped me on the shoulder.
"Have you read this book?" I turned to see the Witches Guide to Symbols shoved into my face.
"Yes, I have." I leaned back, trying to see the person behind the book.
"Ah, you must be Katelyn then." The book moved and the face in front of me was not what I'd expected. It was tan, defined and gorgeous, but also, in a way, baby-like. He had full lips, big blue eyes and dimples so deep it was hard to believe he knew about the symbols.
"Jakob I take it."
"In the flesh." He smiled and bowed his head in a very old fashioned way, then went to put the book down.
"So, fancy explaining that message?" I asked getting straight down to it.
He frowned, "It's kind of a long story."
"I've got time." I went and sat down. "I'm not going anywhere."
"Where do you want to start?"
"The beginning." He laughed at my answer and nodded to himself.
"Ok, well I guess it starts with the symbols. There was a time when that'show people communicated, not with words or speech, but with symbols. Now there are only a handful of people who can still see them. You and I are two of them. The problem with the symbols though is that, depending on where you come from, they'll look different. It's like haing different languages. For example, I see colours, but other people I know see animals or sequences of numbers, it changes for everyone." He paused. "What do you see?"
I couldn't believe I was about to do it, tell a complete stranger the biggest secret I had, but he was like me, he could see things too. So what was the worst that could happen?
I took in a deep breath, steadying myself and then blurted out in one go. "Symbols, like drawings and ancient letters. They float around and tell me anything I want to know, like secrets, warnings and stuff like that."
Jakob just stared at me, moouth wide open. After a few seconds I began to worry, maybe I shouldn't have told him. Symbols were that different to colours, so why the wierd reaction?
"You actually see symbols." He whispered through unmoving lips.
"Yeah.." Jakob suddenly burst out laughing, making me jump. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you it's just that I've never met someone who could actually see the symbols before. It's amazing!"
"Thanks... I think!" Jakob scooted his chair closer to mine. I froze.
"I don't want to scare you, but I need you to come with me."
"What? Why? Where?"
"To a school."
"I already have a school." Was he insane? I wasn't about to leave with him, despite the fact that he looked like he couldn't swat a fly, I didn't know him.
"No this is a special school, a school designed for people like us. They'll be able to help you figure out the symbols. They know a lot more than you'll ever be able to find out on your own. No offence."
"None taken." Jakob looked deep into my eyes and said the words I'd always wanted to hear.
"Katelyn, they can help you figure out what they mean."

Looking back I don't know why I did it, I don't know how I missed the signs. But 10 minutes later I'd found myself sat in the front of his car driving away from everything I'd ever known. The only thing I hoped for was that I was driving towards the answers I so desperately needed.
All I can say about that night was that I jumped, and it was the best and worst thing I ever did.
A/N I don't really like this story anymore, I've just started to write a new one that's completely distracted me from this one!! I'm going to try to finish this one - sorry if it's no good!
