Adeline POV
I'm blaring my music in my headphones, as I sit on the metro, waiting to arrive at the stop by my work. I can't afford a car, and from my studio in Georgetown to my work place, The Hay Adams, it's too far to walk, so I take the metro everyday. I don't mind, I love the metro, and the feeling of living in a big, busy city.
Reaching my stop, I climb the stairs out of the metro station, and walk towards my work, coffee in hand. It takes a lot of caffeine to get through the day. The Hay Adams is a famous, expensive, top end hotel in D.C. and very important and wealthy people stay there, and sometimes, their demands are exhausting.
"Hey Todd," I greet my manager, as I enter into the restaurant that is part of the upscale hotel.
"Hey Addy!" His cheerful voice responds. He's a great manager, and a better friend. When I first moved to this city and got this job, he took me under his wing and made sure I met all of his friends, all the staff, showed me around, and taught me all about the city.
"We have some important guests coming in today. Some band, they're here for the week, and they have a lot of specific requests," Todd explained.
I groan, rolling my eyes. I don't usually mind catering to our guests' needs...but the rockstar type are always trouble.
"Alright, well I better start opening the place up," I say.
I always come into work around 6AM every day to get the restaurant set up. Part of my job as head hostess is to prepare the tables and clean, so I have to be here way before we open.
After preparing everything, I smooth out my black, loose dress, and pull my black blazer on. I love our dress code, we have to look professional, but attractive, and it must be all neutral colors. I normally wear all black anyways, so I enjoy it.
Later that day, I hear a ton of commotion in the lobby, and peak out from the restaurant front doors to see what's happening.
I see paparazzi snapping a million pictures of a group of guys, as they enter the front door. Security is holding off the paparazzi from getting to close or entering into the hotel. That doesn't stop them from continuing to take pictures through the glass doors.
The four men are dressed in all black outfits, are all tattooed up, and not going to lie, are extremely hot. However, their vibe just screams 'bad boys'. I duck my head and return to the host stand.
8 PM rolls around, and I only have one hour left, before I can go home. The bar in the restaurant stays open till late, but I don't have to stick around because the kitchen and dining room close at 9.
Focused on creating tomorrow's server stations, I didn't hear the man in front of me enter until he cleared his throat.
I turn around, and notice it's one of the men from earlier.
"Sorry sir, what can I do for you?" I politely smile, slightly distracted by his good looks.
"Yeah, I need a table for twelve. The rest of the group are on their way," his says in a raspy voice."I'm sorry sir, we can't accommodate parties over 6 without reservations."
"Seriously? Do you know who I am?" He scoffs.
I hold back from rolling my eyes, doesn't he realize we are in D.C. and there's no shortage of important people. To me, he's just another customer.
"Can't say I do, sir," I shoot back with underlying sass in my tone.
Surprise covers his face, before it turns into amusement.
"Mr. Kadence! Welcome, what seems to be the problem?" Todd cuts in, appearing from behind the bar.
"Mr. Kadence here asked for a table for twelve, but I informed him that he must have a reservation for a party that size," I explain.
"Oh no, it's okay this time, Adeline. Go ahead and push some tables together." Todd insructs me before turning to the man, "while she prepares it for you, would you like a complimentary drink, for the inconvenience?"
I turn quickly, so I can roll my eyes, as I make my way to set the tables.
After preparing a table for twelve people, Todd comes up to me.
"Hey, Addy, I'm sorry about that. He's one of the guest I was talking about earlier. They've rented out the whole entire top floor for the week, so the hotel managers are on me about accommodating them."
"It's fine, Todd." I genuinely say.
"One more thing, and I'm sorry about this, but he's requesting that you stay to help their server and the bartenders. I'll make sure you get to split the tip with them," Todd bits his lip with pity.
"Okay, that's fine Todd. I could use the extra money right now."
Mr. Kadence, walks up to the host stand as Todd heads back to the kitchen. He smirks at me, before acknowledging the rest of his party who have entered.
I force a smile onto my face, "Okay Mr. Kadence, you and your guests can follow me."
'Just play nice and try to earn a good tip,' I think to myself before sitting them at their table.
