*One Week Later
Adeline POV
I take a deep breath, rub my pregnant belly, and squeeze Kasen's hand tighter as we enter the rehab facility. Today was the day we were visiting Axel, and I was extremely nervous.
We check in, and soon Axel is in front of us, smiling.
"Oh my god, you look amazing!" Axel compliments me.
I just smile politely.
"Look at your belly!" He exclaims.
Kasen protectively pulls me closer and puts his hand on my belly.
Axel clears his throat, "Well, why don't we go sit outside. There's a great garden." I nod my head and Kasen and I follow Axel out.
Looking around, I say, "wow this is amazing out here!" It's absolutely beautiful, full of flowers and plants.
We sit down at a table and Axel takes a big inhale.
"So, first, I need to say how sorry I am for everything. For how I acted at the party, for not contacting you, for yelling at you, for pushing you.." he trails off, pausing for a second.
"I'm an alcoholic and an addict. When I got the role in the movie, I started drinking heavily and doing drugs to deal with the stress. And that's why my attitude changed overnight. I was getting worse and worse. The night I pushed you, I realized I needed help. So I checked in here the next day." Axel explains.
"Well, that's a lot to take in, but thank you for the apology and for admitting that to me." I finally say.
"So how's the baby?" He changes the subject.
I pull out a copy of the last ultrasound and hand it to him, "I had the doctor print out a copy for you."
Axel's eyes tear up, "this...this is our baby?"
Kasen growls, "it's Adeline and my baby, you don't deserve the right to be his father."
Axel looks hurt, but I can tell he knows it's the truth.
"Axel, you hurt me. More than you can imagine. I came here today to give you that picture and to hear you out. But I need time. When you're out of here and sober for a good amount of time, we can talk further about your role in this baby's life."
He nods his head, "I understand. But please, promise me if I keep my sobriety, you'll let me be a part of his life?"
I sigh deeply, "let's take one step at a time, Axel. Just focus on you, I'll send you pictures from the doctor while you stay here."
He smiles shyly, "that sounds great, thank you. Thanks for coming today, and thank you Kasen for taking care of them."
Before I can say you're welcome, Kasen just scoffs and pulls me up out of the chair.
"Bye Axel, I'll ask the people up front about sending mail."
He nods and waves. For a second, I feel a bit of guilt for being so short, but then I remember what he did, I remember everything he did.
"You okay baby?" Kasen asks worriedly as we get back into the car.
"Yes, thank you so much for coming with me. You're so amazing." I say.
He chuckles, "anything for you baby, I love you."
"I love you too. So Hans and Kate are getting pretty serious, huh?" I ask, changing the subject.
He laughs, "yeah, never thought I'd see the day that Hans would settle down, but I guess Kate is quite a handful, and he likes her attitude."
I giggle, "finally someone to take her off of my hands." Of course I'm joking, I love Kate, but I'm super happy for her and Hans. He asked her to move in together last week.
"Speaking of all of that, would you like to find a place that we both like?" Kasen curiously asks, "of course, it would have to be near the practice arena still, but something that feels like home to both of us."
A smile takes over my entire face, "you're amazing, you know that."
