A CLOSE CALL!

"Ronnie!?" Eddie called, walking down the various tunnels of the sewer. The rest of the group hot on his heels. The minutes before this was frightening for the group, Stan the most. A close encounter with Henry Bowers, and the painted lady sucking off their friends face was enough to scare anyone off.

The words Bev and Veronica bounced off the walls into the grey water and echoed down the rounded tunnels.

Eddie let out a disgusted grunt as he toppled into the murky water. Millions of gallons of Derry, Maine's finest piss and shit, mixed with trash juice.

"Eds, come on!" Richie said, pulling Eddie out of the water. He offered a thanks before charging ahead once more. Bill stopped at the door.

"It's locked." Bill hollered, informing the group still trudging through wads of trash. They hurried over and began to push. It was hard and took maximum effort from everyone in the group, but eventually the door gave way.

"Veronica, Bev?" The group called once more, eyes frantically searching the room. Then Eddie saw it. The air was knocked out of his lungs, his heart beating erratically in his chest.

"Oh shit. Bev," he wheezed out.

"How is she in the air?" Richie asked, moving closer to examine the floating girl. Eddie's brown eyes focused on the rest of the room. Hundreds of kids were all in the air, their belongings scattered across the damp ground.

"Guys, are those... the missing kids, floating?" Eddie said unsurely. Richie paid him no mind, still entranced by the redhead. The others swallowed thickly.

"Just help me grab her," Richie hissed, standing on his tip toes. He reached for the girl, jumping up and down, trying his best to even grab a toe. Mike sighed, lifting Richie into the air. Watching him struggle was pathetic and painful.

"I'm slipping," Mike grunted as Richie adjusted himself on the boy's shoulders. His fingers reached out nimbly and grasped Bev's ankle. Mike shifted his weight as he lowered Richie and Bev to the ground.

As soon as her feet hit the solid ground, Ben rushed forward, his hands cupping the sides of her cheeks.

"Bev. Beverly. Why isn't she waking up? What's wrong with her? Beverly, please! Come on!" Ben cried, tears dribbling down his chubby cheeks. Suddenly, he kissed her.

"Woah, woah, woah..." Richie exclaimed, his hug eyes blinking rapidly, as if what he had just seen was a mirage.

"Bev?" Ben asked hopefully. For a moment nothing happened. Then Bev sucked in a deep breath, her eyes blinked the trance away.
