Chapter 4.
Talk about reckless. I just stormed out of the house after yelling at my mother, promising to transfer.
To match my mood, the horrible weather decides to continue, and the sky rumbles in the announcement of rain. I sigh, and walk to the Noble park pavilion in time for the rain to begin.
There really was no going back now. I have to switch to Reckless. I march slowly across the street until reaching the side walk, and then sit on a bench on the boulevard.
Sighing, I realize how stupid this was. I don't know anyone in the Reckless dependency. No idea of their customs, where I will live.
The rain pours, but the bench is under the tree so I am not completely soaked. About an hour later, I hail a cab to the Reckless dependency. After paying the driver, I step out onto wet pavement.
The Brave dependency is luminous and towers above the rest of its section. Noble has a simple yet large dependency of calm and orderly nature. But the Reckless allow their dependency to be as interesting as possible.
Neon colored lights circled the large tower, with a walkway wrapping around the six story building. Music blasted out of several rooms as the crazy order less people partied and talked. The four doors automatically swung open, and their was one small security check- because no one trusts The Reckless - and after the machine so no weapons I walked forward to a lady at a table in the entry way.
I had never been inside this building, only gave it longing stares as we drove by as a kid. Now I see that the inside is as or more impressive. Three sets of glass dome shaped elevators stood at the right of the entryway, behind the desks positioned in the middle of the room were bright colored rugs and furniture, a stereo and computers. There was a hallway that lead to many doors. To the left was a set of steps, and a ladder which led to a similar walkway wrapping around the interior. I stared up at the open space of the tower, awestruck by the gradient room.
The lady I faced had long purple hair, illuminating grey eyes and several piercings on her face as well as many on her ears. She looked annoyed, as if she didn't want to be sitting down and instead partying with the Reckless.
"Can I help you?" She asked in a rude, nasally tone. Looking up at me from her computer screen, she looked me up and down. I guess I don't really look Reckless, with my tan shorts and pale blue collared tank top. Noble clothing, but the best I could find.
I hit my lip, new people, new conversations. Change isn't something I'm used to. And meeting others isn't exactly my area of expertise. Sure, it's just the lady at the desk. I'm not like, generally shy. It's just awkward and new situations that get me.
"I would like to transfer." I say this while pulling my hair out of it's tight ponytail, letting my wavy dark hair flow over my shoulders. As I slide the elastic on my wrist, the women raises her eyebrows in what seems to be surprise and disapproval.
"Okay then. I will presume you are transferring from Noble? May I have your name please."
"Marcella Lindor." I sigh in disgust at my long and terrible first name. Why I was blessed with it I have no idea.
"You will be living in dorm 276, on the second floor." She handed me a thin stack of papers. "Here is your schedule for Reckless bravery training."
Training? I didn't know there was training. I kind of figured it was just wing it. And I'm not brave enough for this. I already know.
I thanked the lady and walked over to the dome elevator. I pressed the round button that read 2. The elevator was filled with graffiti and writing, except for the parts that were glass. I watched as I slowly rose a bit above the city. Obviously the higher floors had quite a view. I shivered. Heights.
The dome dinged and the doors slid open. It revealed a hallway with random couches and rugs, more graffiti, and doors with numbers. I walked along and found room 276.
I grabbed the small key I had been given, and slid it into the lock. Stepping into the room cautiously, I saw a couch and table, a glass door leading to a balcony, a bathroom, and a small kitchen. There was a bedroom with a twin bed and a dresser. I stepped out onto the balcony.
Glass. That's all it was. I was standing on glass. With a small railing, the entire floor made of glass. I winced, and stepped back onto the sturdy floor. I stared down at the sidewalk below. It was not that far down, but I still shivered with the idea of falling and flattening into a comparable pancake.
I sighed. Walking into my bedroom, I grabbed my bag from the counter. I unpacked my clothes and then crawled into bed at 11:00. I did like the idea of not having such a schedule at night. I could hear parties and people talking in other rooms. I didn't fall asleep until 12:30. I couldn't believe today had happened.
Sorry for late update. Not many people are reading this but I don't mind because I just like to write for fun. Thanks if you are, and I promise it may seem a bit like Divergent right now but it will be quite different really soon. Thanks if your eyes are on this right now!;)
