I quickly sat up from my bed due to the emergency sirens going off as they passed my window. My heart beat rapidly as the startle was very unpleasant. I almost ended up panting in fear. I watched the ambulance head toward the hospital that was approximately fifteen blocks from my home. I scanned around the bedroom to find my phone. I needed to make sure I wasn't needed for the emergency at work. I press the button on my phone to a brightly lit screen. I had a message for an emergency.
Message:
"(Y/N), we need you down at work to be our assistant nurse. You may end up becoming the caretaker of this patient as well since I already have my hands full of one hundred other patients." - Ki Ling
I leaped out of bed to grab my folded scrubs upon my dresser. I shoved myself through the pants and buttoned the shirt at a fast pace. I couldn't be late. I couldn't have a patient die on me. Yet, who is to say he will die? I didn't want to take the chance. I believed that every patient I got was on the brink of death, whether they were or not. These thoughts were no surprise to me, but they always brought worry to me. These thoughts had my feet pick up to a jogging pace. I reached for my car keys and hurried out the door. I didn't mind leaving my coat inside. I didn't have the time. I placed my phone in my pocket as I opened the car door. The car ignition was roared on, and I gripped the steering wheel. I had to hurry.
Pulling up into the parking lot, I saw a great mass of people surrounding the ambulance. My eyes observed the scene watching a stretcher come out with a person lying upon it and being escorted inside. I made my way around to park once I spotted a vacant area. I instantaneously unbuckled myself and ran toward the front of the hospital locking the vehicle behind me. I noticed my co-worker, and friend, Ling had been standing outside the entrance waiting for me. "I'm glad you arrived so soon. Usually, those fifteen blocks take you forever to get here," Ling commented. He turned and began to walk urgently to where I needed to be. Ling continued to inform me of the situation. "The patient you're looking over is in Room 3210. There was a car accident about a half hour ago. One man was severely injured and may have permanent damage. The other, however, got nothing by a nice scar to stitch upon the side of his head. That's all I know at this point." I nodded. "The documentation on the patient will be outside the door in the document holder." We entered an elevator and went up to the third floor. Exiting, we headed to West Wing up a small flight of stairs. "He's right down there, (Y/N). You take care. You will do well. Please, be able to take care of the patient," Ling reminded.
"Yes, Ling. You know I always do my job in taking care of patients. You know this. I'm not Lian or Makeera," I smiled rolling my eyes in a friendly way.
"I know. I know. I am just saying," he smiled back. "I'll see you around after my shift."
"Alright, see ya," I waved and strode down the hall. I remained to have my eyes scan the doors searching for 3210 stationed above the doorway. I continued to head down the hall until the room number appeared. I spotted the number to my right and reached for the paperwork in the document folder. Not bothering to look at it out in the hall, I knocked on the door politely.
"Come in," a quiet, calm voice spoke out. I entered the room staring at the floor.
"It was surprising how fast they got the patient into urgent care and out into a room to rest," I thought. I took the clipboard and clung it to my chest tightly. I didn't want to look at the information until I greeted the patient. I looked up from the floor to the patient that laid upon the bed. It was a young and handsome man. He looked friendly and loving. His facial features were gorgeously nice to the finest touch.
"Annyeonghaseyo," he greeted. I smiled with a wave back.
"Your name is?" I asked without looking at the clipboard.
"My name is Jeon Jungkook, but you can call me Jungkook," he welcomed with charm. "Your name is (Y/N). I have heard you were on your way here to help me out. Mianhaeyo. I didn't mean for you to be woken up at such a time," Jungkook apologized.
"No worries, it happens all the time here," I reassured.
"Ah, okay," he replied and relaxed a bit. I looked at the clipboard. His name was Jeon Jungkook. I noticed his age on the document.
"Age twenty-two?" I asked interested with to some surprise.
"Yes, I am." I wanted to look at his features close up than just by the picture on the sheet. I glanced up to see him looking over at me. Quickly, my eyes shot back down at the printed paper. I heard a faint giggle and blushed in slight embarrassment. "Again, I am thankful that you are taking care of me," he smiled. His smile was beautiful. Less than a second, it had me hypnotized with those precious eyes of his.
"Y-you seem really calm after what happened to you," I mentioned while I began to check up on his heart, breathing, and other regular check procedures. It seemed to be that my statement had made him come back to reality.
"Hm? Oh, yeah. I think they just gave me numbing medication into my body. I don't feel anything very much, but I think it will eventually wear off," he informed me.
"Whatever happened?" I inquired.
"It's strange. It all happened in a flash. At the moment, I don't recall what occurred to have it happen. I might remember later."
"Do you think you have a concussion?" I walked over to the chair that was set beside his bed against the window. "Do you think you took brain damage?"
"Oh, no. I don't think that happened. I may have broken my ankle or something of that sort," he proposed.
"Shall we have a look?" I offered. Jungkook nodded. I stood up in response and was going to check more of his body. All of a sudden, the door to the room was opened. Dr. Kang-Li stood there in the open.
"Leave the rest to me, (Y/N). You are free to go home and get more rest. Thank you for attending to our patient," Dr. Kang advised holding out his hand. I walked over with the clipboard and handed over to him. "I'm sure Nurse (Y/N) took good care of you, right?"
"Yes, Sir," Jungkook confirmed. "She was very welcoming." I check over my left shoulder to see Jungkook. He grinned at me, and I grinned back at him. I gave a little wave before leaving the room feeling crestfallen. I had no idea if I was going to see that man again. I sighed walking down the hall running my fingers through my hair. I was going to miss him if I didn't.
