"Ru-Chan! Open up! I know you're there! I can see the lights on!", cried [Y/N] as she knocked on the door while ringing the doorbell again.
She was considering to burning the door, when an annoyed Saruhiko finally decided to open the door.
"Ru-chan? What kind of stupid nickname is that?", Saru asked coldly.
However, [Y/N] didn't cower from his gaze. She knew that despite sounding so distant, he doesn't dislike her company. He was just too accustomed to feigning indifference so that others couldn't hurt him. For Saru, showing any feelings, whether of affection, friendship or anger, was a sign of weakness that could be used against him.
Maybe that's why [Y/N] always ends up coming to his apartment, when emotions were about to overwhelm her and she didn't want to be in HOMRA. She knew that Saru wouldn't insist on pestering her to tell him anything or ask awkward questions so it doesn't seem like he cares for her. That and because she didn't want to be on the streets and sitting on a bench where any of her HOMRA mates could see her.
"You don't like it? Saruhiko's too long and I didn't want to call you Saru. You know, because it means monkey and Yata often uses it to bother you.", she said.
Fushimi looked at her with slight confusion. Why would she care so much about something so small? He doesn't care about what others call him.
"Well, the truth is, Ru-chan wasn't my choice of nickname either, but, Sa-chan reminded me of San-chan which Shōhei calls Bandō..." added [Y/N], continuing her monologue. "If you don't like it, I can think another one. Hmm... how about Fushi-kun? Probably not, it sounds awful. Shimi-kun? Mmm... Not. If I use your last name, it sounds too formal. Hiko-chan? Safu -...?
"Shut up", Saruhiko stopped her, trying to avoid the impending headache that the [E/C]-eyed would cause if she kept blabbing on. "Call me Saru. It doesn't bother me, so shut up."
"Sorry. Saru then", she apologized with a smile.
"Though... if you're so worried, you can call me Saru-sama", he added.
[Y/N] looked at him surprised. Did Saruhiko, also known as Mr. Serious, just make a joke?
"Whatever, what are you doing here?", he added quickly, trying to change the subject when he realized his mistake.
"As usual", she snorted. "Yata was unbearable and I didn't want to hear him anymore. Besides, you owe me. I know you know a lot more about my brother that you aren't telling me Fushimi, so the least you can do is to let me hide in your house whenever I want", said the girl, poking his chest with her finger to emphasize her affirmation.
Giving up, Fushimi turned away from the door to let the girl in.
"You argue too much with Misaki", he said, as he closed the door behind her.
"Not my fault he's an idiot", she defended herself, somewhat flustered, before plopping down on the couch.
"True", agreed Saru. "By the way, I went to buy that couch this morning because someone can't stop coming over to take my sofa and eat my food, so if you're hungry, you can grab something" he said, emphasizing the word something. "Don't eat it all. You know, if something happens, let me know, but unless you're bleeding, you better not bother me", finished the boy, before entering his room.
"So much love...I love you too...", snorted the blue-haired, while she rose to check what Fushimi had bought.
After rummaging through a pair of cupboards, the young woman's face brightened as she saw a bag full of [F/S] with a 'for the loudmouth' note written in neat calligraphy. 'See, Fu-chan? You like me even if you don't want to admit it' ,she thought, as she took the bag and returned to the sofa.
In a way, it could be said that they ended up becoming friends even though [Y/N] was bothered by the fact that she was ignored every time she asked a question about her brother. 'All in due time', Ryu used to say, but, she was starting to get tired of it, since it just keeps bringing up more questions instead of answers.

"Izu-chan", called Tatara. "Did [Y/N] leave by herself again?", he asked worriedly. Every time the girl left, it could be hours before she returns and neither Eric or Kōsuke knew where she was. What if something happened to her?
"Yes... ", Izumo replied thoughtfully. "I think she had an argument with Yata again."
"Is it so hard for them to admit that they both like each other? It's been five months since [Y/N] joined HOMRA and they still argue all the time", said Chitose.
"That chihuahua does not deserve someone like [Y/N]. Besides, he's an idiot", added Eric.
"Speaking of the King of Rome, what's he doing?", Shōhei asked.
"He locked himself in his room and slammed the door after [Y/N] left", Anna said, while shrugging.
"Anna, have you heard anything about [Y/N]'s whereabouts?", asked Tatara, returning to the main subject of the conversation.
The red-eyed girl knew where she was, but lied and said no. She understood that her friend needed to disconnect from time to time. Although she had begun to receive news of her brother through letters (which only Anna knew who gave them to her), she still didn't know exactly what was going on and where he was hiding. Anna knew that it was gnawing the girl inside, though, she tried to hide it from HOMRA with a smile. If being at Saruhiko's home made her feel better, she was not going to betray her. In addition, it was possible that Yata accused her of being a traitor and [Y/N] already had enough concerns as to add another one.
"Don't worry Tatara, you taught her how to control fire well. She only has to incinerate whoever approaches her", Izumo tries to reassure him.
Tatara looked at him with a raised eyebrow. What kind of relief is the fact that [Y/N] has to kill someone to defend herself?
"Maybe we should do something to make her feel better. After all this time, her brother still hasn't appeared which must have made her worried", said Eric, who had noticed that the smiles his friend directed to him, weren't as sincere as before.
The boys listened to the blond's words. Maybe if they did something to encourage her, [Y/N] would stop disappearing so often.
"Any ideas?", Izumo asked.
"She had always liked the sea", Kōsuke pointed out, joining the conversation.
"Then let's go to the beach!", exclaimed Tatara excitedly.
"Can you all shut up?", Mikoto asked, opening one of his eyes.
"We were talking about going to the beach, King", Tatara informed him.
The red-headed sat up slowly and lit a cigarette.
"If I say yes, will you all shut up?", he asked, taking a drag.
They nodded quickly.
"Deal."
