Haylee never knew her mom.
She had heard so many good things about her, how she was probably one of the best people in this world. She was beautiful, strong, brave, and the kindest a person could ever get. Hayden loved her with all his heart, and always used to say he wanted to be mommy some day.

She felt like it was her fault mom died.

Apparently, while she was giving birth to Haylee, she had passed. Now her dad was dating this woman named Helen. Haylee liked Helen a little bit. She was a decent person, she could talk to her, Helen wouldn't treat them like trash, and for the most part just leave Haylee and her brother alone. Hayden absolutely despised her. He felt like dad was replicating mom with someone who wasn't half as amazing as her. He wouldn't talk or listen to Helen. Haylee felt bad for them both, but what did she know? She was only 9 anyways. Her life was pretty decent, besides the fact that school was starting tomorrow, and she didn't have a great experience with it.
. . .

Haylee woke up to her blaring alarm clock, relieved to be awoken from her terrifying dream realm she had visited that night. She had dreamed that she was about 19 years old, and was with a large group of people. A few men had come and started tying up the other people. Haylee had tried to stop them but one had held a knife to her throat and muttered something she hadn't been able to make out.

She tried to forget her nightmare and hauled herself out of bed, not needing to wake up all that much. Her nightmare disturbed her to much. She looked at the ground and saw her uniform on the floor, and remembered it was the first day of school. The blonde kid sighed and slipped on her white top and grey skirt that flowed down to a few inches below her knees. She started towards her bedroom door and saw a backpack full of school books and her lunch, and saw a note attached to it. It said:

Good morning sweetie! I hope you have a good first day of 4th grade! I've packed all the stuff you need for your first day, and I wanted to let you know that I'm at work. My boss wants me to work overtime until we get someone else on the team. I love you so much! Have a great day!
Love, Dad

Haylee smiled and stuffed the note in her skirt pocket. She opened her door and headed to th bathroom where she brushed her hair and teeth. As she turned to leave, she jumped as Hayden jumped in front of her and cried "BOO!" As soon as he saw Haylee's face he laughed and ruffled her hair. "Hayden!!! I just brushed my hair!!" Haylee crossed her arms and stuck out her lip at Hayden. Her brother just laughed and handed her the brush. "Just brush it again!" He immediately got to work on himself and Haylee sighed. She finished herself up again and turned to leave.

"Haylee?"

"Yeah, Hayden?"

"Are you gonna be ok today?"

Haylee's last year at school had been torture for her. There was this group of 5 girls who would always bully her and take her stuff. Every day she would come home crying and Hayden would have to cheer her up. He was good at that.

"I'll be ok."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah. I'm a big girl now! I can take care of those bullies now."

"That's my little sister."

Hayden smiled warmly at her and Haylee ran over to hug him. Hayden was like her second dad, or even her replacement mom. He looked after her and loved her so much she didn't feel as lost without a mom. Hayden pulled away and looked at his phone. "It's 7:25. Your bus will be here in 5 minuets. Do you want me to walk you out the door?"

Haylee shook her head. "I'm ok. Thanks though." She flung her backpack over her shoulder and headed down the steps and put the front door. She stood on the porch for a moment, and took a deep breath. Today was going to be a good day. She wouldn't let anyone change that. She stood there for a few more seconds and headed down to the bus stop, but once she was there her heart sunk. The very people she didn't want to see were waiting for her.
Maybe she was wrong about it being a good day.

"Well if it isn't Haylee the dWEEb!!"

Haylee sighed as a group of 5 girls approached her. The one leading the group was named Alexis, she was a blonde kid with dull brown eyes, and she thought she was such a big deal. Haylee had almost gotten in a fight with her. She would have done anything to punch this girl in the nose.

"It's nice to see you too Alexis."

Alexis and her group stopped a few feet in front of her. "You know the drill Haylee. Give me the money." Alexis stuck out her hand for Haylee's lunch money, but Haylee didn't budge.

"Sorry Alexis. My dad packed me lunch today. No money today."

Alexis's smile faded. "Then give me the lunch. You know what I'll do if you don't." Haylee didn't move. "Haylee. Give. Me. The food."

"No."

"WHAT did you say?"

"No."

"I'm warning you. I promise I'll-"

"You'll what?"

Haylee turned around at the bsound of a new voice and saw one of her old friends from 3rd grade. Her name was Ella, but Haylee called her E. Ella glared defiantly at Alexis. "You won't do anything to her on my watch."

Alexis narrowed her eyes and a few of the girls smirked. "I can do whatever I want. You know who my dad is." Alexis's dad was the vice principle, and she thought that automatically gave her authority. E rolled her eyes. "Yeah, Yeah. But that doesn't give yOu any power over anyone else."

To Haylee's relief, the bus arrived at the stop. All the kids including her and E got on, and the two of them took a seat in the front.

"Sorry about Alexis."

"It's ok. I hope we get the same class."

"Me too. I really hope I don't get sent to Zach's class. He sucks."

"Yeah, he's rude. He also eats glue. But that's not that rare."

"I know 5 kids who eat glue."

"Really? Who?"

"I'm not telling."

"Aww, Cmon. Pleaaase?"

"You'll find out!"

The whole ride they talked about classes and teachers they didn't want, and things like that. In about 20 minuets they arrived at the school, and Haylee didn't know to be terrified or thrilled. 'Here goes nothing' she thought as she stepped off the bus, and looked up at the massive building in front of her.
