Keith -"Keith you gotta figure out what your next move is baby, you graduated college and working the job at the library is okay but you have to see if this is something that you wanna keep doing for the rest of your life," Mama said as she turned off the stove.
"I hear you ma," I said twirling my pen around. I was sitting here filling out job applications, and having a talk with mama about trying to figure out my next move.
Yes I was working ten hours a day at the library making $16 an hour but it wasn't much, and I was tired of it. I was still living with my parents, my mama has offered me a couple times to help me buy an apartment, buying it is cool but I have to pay rent every month and sometimes my checks don't be enough.
My parents are Jazmine Sullivan and Kendrick Lamar, my moms is an R&B singer while my dad is a rapper. I know you're thinking like boy your parents are rich as fuck what's your issue?
Granted I have thought about saying fuck it and just living with my parents until I turn old and gray, but that just isn't for me. I want my own life, my own money, and to be financially stable because of my hard work not because of my parents.
My siblings on the other hand think very differently. There's my sister Kendra, she's in high school right now, her dream is to become a fashion designer, she was offered an internship to work downtown with some famous fashion designer, but she turned it down because my dad wouldn't give her a car. She think she's too good to ride public transportation. Momma wouldn't talk to her for a week, like she stuck her neck out and she turned down the position being a spoiled ass brat.
Then there's Kenya she's the quiet one, she's in high school as well but she's very smart, her principal came by the house the other day because they think Kenya should be in college right now, she's reading above college standards and she passed her ACT'S test with a 32.
My mom however wants her to remain in high school while my dad thinks she should go on and go to college. Kenya is honestly undecided about what it is she wants to do, me being the big brother I told her to follow her heart.
At first she wanted to go off to college but then the thought of leaving her friends behind and all the work she would have to do and the pressure from my parents scared her.
Kenneth, is in high school as well, he's trying out for the football team which is really making my dad happy. He currently has a lil girlfriend who moms can't stand. Dad be having to put moms in check whenever she comes around.
Then there's Jamir he's going through a rebellious stage right now. He got suspended from school for a week because his dumb ass was trying to sell squares in the locker room. He doesn't care about his grades or going to school, he's given his teachers my number whenever he gets in trouble. I've tried talking to him but he just doesn't want to listen.
Mama embarrassed him in front of half the school at parent teacher conference. It was a week of war in this house. Everyday they were fighting, pops had to step in a few times when he was yelling at mama too loud. Jamir said some slick shit to pops, and I ain't never seen pops beat him like he did before.
My brother Daniel (Diggy) is taking art classes at the community college, he's very good at his drawing, so good that he even landed a job as a tattoo artist, he loves it but he won't go to school and pursue it more.
He thinks just because he's working downtown and he's making a grand a night that he doesn't have to go to school or do anything more with his life and lastly there's my brother Bryson.
Bryson's following after mamas foot steps he wants to take up music, mostly singing. He's recorded a few tracks and he's even did a few shows and gotten money afterwards, but because mama already knows how the game is she doesn't want him to pursue a music career. While pops on the other hand thinks it's a great idea.
