We both reached the city within two hours. We quickly went off to find the place that we would be staying, well, it was more like an abandoned house. We made it to the house in fifteen minutes. The both of us looked up at the old cream-coloured house, the paint was slight peeling, the windows were broken in some places. We walked up the creaking wood steps. Opening the door as it creaked I cringed at the sudden sound of the metal hinges rubbing against each other, rusted. We lived on the edge of some woods, not too far into them but not right on the edge. We were still close to civilization. So we had redone both of our rooms and the inside we left the outside so that the monsters wouldn't think anything about it, they were more intelligent than you would think. We never really fixed the lights either, we used candles and flashlights, although we did have power. Abigail had thought that actually using the lights would use up a lot of power, not that we actually had a bill as when this town was abandoned very few people stayed, and it would give up our place too much. Some people in the town itself did use power but would normally try their best not to use them at night, as for us we couldn't do that. Because we lived in the woods, though not being too far from town, you could still see lights fairly easily. I walked to my room and set my things on the floor and so did Abigail. We had a two-story cottage. We met back in the kitchen to fix something up. Abigail made potatoes and rolls. The two of us had taken turns cooking, today was Abigail's day as I cooked yesterday. She placed the food on the table.
The two of us began to eat. "You know Harper, we don't need to do this. Going after these things, we can just settle down here and not have to worry about one of us getting killed." Abigail said so calmly. 'How could she be so calm about saying this? She knows my motivation and why I'm doing this. If she doesn't want to do this she can just tell me.' I thought before responding.
"If you don't want to do this you could just tell me. You don't have to go with me and fight those things with me. You don't really have to be with me at all." I said before she could respond or I got any angrier I got up and left. I ran up to my room and grabbed my bag and put a rope and my katanas around my waist and put a jacket in my bag. As I zipped up my backpack Abigail came into my room.
"Where are you going?" She asked. "I'm leaving for the night. You can't do anything about it so don't try to." I said coldly exhaling sharply. I pushed passed her. "Harper you can't go; you'll get hurt or worse killed," Abigail exclaimed urgently.
"Oh? And I have weapons so that if I do get attacked I can fight back. Plus, You're not my mother." I say harshly. "She left," I said under my breath. Abigail grasped my arm in an attempt to stop me but I just yanked my arm away from her and left slamming the door behind me. I walked five minutes away; it wasn't much but it was enough to get me to calm down. I climbed a tree and tied myself to it by my waist and with the excess rope tied my backpack to the tree by the top loop. I unzipped my bag and took out my dark green army jacket and put it on, zipping up my backpack and my jacket. I leaned against the trunk of the tree closing my eyes. The next thing I know its morning and the sun is trying to find its way through my closed eyes. I open my eyes, squinting slightly and the bare sunlight on my beige skin. My emerald green eyes adjusting to the sun. I untied myself and my backpack. Putting a rope in my bag and slinging that over my shoulders as I climbed down the tree and made my way home. I stopped outside of my house. I took a deep breath and stepped inside instantly being attacked in a hug. It took me by surprise before I realized it was Abigail she was in mid-thigh length light grey shorts and a white tank top. I hugged her back. She was my same height so it was easy to hug her without any form of discomfort.
"I was so worried that you would get hurt," Abigail said into my shoulder. I didn't know I worried her so much. 'Why the hell would I do that? Especially now that there are monsters wondering about.' I thought. "I'm sorry," I whispered. She pulled out of the hug.
"I'm just glad that you're okay," Abigail said.
I was about to reply when there was a knock at the door. Abigail and I just glanced at each other. Before she answered telling me to go get changed. I ran up to my room. By the time I got up the stairs I heard a lower males voice, it sounded familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it. I shrugged it off before going into my room and closing the door to get changed. I went over to my drawers and pulled out a pair of light blue shorts that went slightly above mid-thigh, a maroon red t-shirt and black, grey, and white plaid. I slipped off my tan skinny jeans and slipped on the shorts. I took off my baby blue almost white long sleeve shirt and put on the maroon t-shirt and tied the plaid around my waist. I pulled on white socks and white converse. Before running downstairs and seeing Daniel. I was slightly shocked; I thought that he left with almost everyone else.
"Daniel? Daniel Taft?" I asked just to make sure it was really him. He looked up "Harper Keats?" The teen boy asked. It was him. I ran over to him and hugged him. He was my best friend along with Abigail. He hugged me back. Abigail was just looking at us. "I've missed you." I heard Daniel say aloud. "I did too," I replied as we pulled back I got a glimpse of him. His black hair that contrasted with his pale skin and ivy eyes that I loved. He was wearing a light grey long sleeve shirt and black skinny jeans and maroon vans.
"Well, it seems that you two already know each other so I'm just going to go get changed and ready." She said and just left.
When Abigail walked back down the stairs Daniel and I were just talking and laughing. Catching up on anything and everything. We heard Abigail clear her throat we looked over and saw her standing there her arms crossed over her chest. She had on white high waisted shorts that went above mid-thigh with a light pink tank top and a long tan sweater that was open in the front. She also had on tan ankle boots.
"Well, we should probably go and kill some of those giant monster creeps instead of sitting around laughing and chatting it up." She said kind of sassily. I laughed at that a little and so did Daniel. I stood up off of the couch,
"Yeah, we should." I agree. "Daniel do you have anything you can to fight these ugly shits off?" I asked.
"Actually I don't. My family left for a place where these monsters that you speak of aren't." He responded his calm smooth voice said.
"Okay then let's go get you something before we go. Abby, go get your crossbow and I'll go grab my katanas." I said and both me and Abigail nod and run off to gather them. When I get back Abigail has her sheath already around her torso and her crossbow on her belt on her waist. I had both of my katanas in their sheath and those on its proper belt.
"Well, let's get your desired weapon," I said and started to the door. "Are you two coming?" I asked playfully before leaving the house waiting outside.
