It's hard to empathize with people
Because they turn to you and you know they think,
"How would you know? You aren't me."
Oh darling I know I'm not you
But I feel your pain
I see the shattered thoughts in your eyes
I see the suspicion and the surprise
That someone is listening to you
But I feel your story as you tell it
I feel your tears running down your cheeks
I feel the disappointment
I feel the fear
I feel the anxiety
It's tightening my chest
Until I almost can't breathe
I'm not you
But I've had days where I cry alone in my bed
I've had days where I wonder why I try anything when I know I will fail
I'm afraid of being alone, of my loved ones leaving me
I have felt sudden and unexplainable urges to flee, to get away
You see, it's a blessing and a curse to have a deep imagination
Because I see everything you're saying
I feel everything you're feeling
Until I feel the same that you do
I just want to help you
I know I can't solve your problems
There is only so much you can do to help someone, especially when they won't help themselves
But I'm here to listen
I will always listen
And let you know that you are never alone in your fight
And you have people that love you
And care about you
And you are not worthless
You are not an accident
You are precious and beloved and wonderful
You are here for a reason
And you are going to help so many people
Because you have qualities that make you who you are
And you are going to do so much
If you just trust in yourself
And know that you are a beloved child of God
I'm here to tell you that I am here
I will listen

We Feel More Than What We Say Out Loud
PoetryEveryone has emotions that are difficult to put into words, that strain the mind and demand release. Mine fall onto the page and speak what I don't say.
