"...not only did the hotel, Crystal, get robbed, but also the leader of the gang who lead the heist was found dead-"
I shut off the TV using its remote not wanting to hear more of what the reporter had to say. It had been a week since the incident had happened and so far every news station was blabbing still about it. It turns out not only did the Crystal get broken into, but the hotel's safe also was robbed and millions of dollars were stolen from it.
To say I was still traumatized by it was an understatement. I still had nightmares about it and woke up at midnight with cold sweat running down my neck. Gasping for air, I would just get up, sit outside on the patio with a cup of coffee till the sun comes up. The nightmares would be the same every day. Instead of the gang leader being under the chandelier, I would always be under it and Nick would be too late to rescue me.
I sighed and sat down on the couch bored. Since Jullian noticed my distressed state of mind at work, he gave me a week off. I looked at the time.
9:00 A.M.
It was too early to go to take a nap and even if I did I knew that I would get nightmares. If I turned on the TV, the same news about the incident would play. Suddenly there was a knock on my door. I wondered who it was before walking over to the door and unlocking it.
Nick
"Hey!" I greeted.
"Hi." He said back, awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck.
Nick was standing outside with a bouquet of pink roses and a box of chocolates. He had a plain white tee on and some faded blue jeans on. His dirty blonde hair was messy as if he had run a hand through it several times. The same gleaming green eyes were staring at me awkwardly. I wondered how he had found my address. Wait a minute.
"How did you find out where I live?" I asked, narrowing my eyes.
Nick looked guilty for a moment and rubbed the back of his neck. "I asked Jullian for your address and he gave it to me."
"Just like that? He didn't even ask questions?" I asked suspiciously.
"He said that you had been shutting yourself out since the 'incident' and that he would be very much happier if you had company rather than dying from isolation." After a thought, he added," Also, he gave us his blessing."
I let out a small laugh and let Nick in. He started to look around the place. My house wasn't that big. It was a pretty basic house with a plain living room and kitchen beside it, while two bedrooms were upstairs. It was a pretty cozy place with paintings and other home decors to make it more welcoming. I sat down on my of the couches while Nick sat across from mine.
"These are for you." Nick handed me the roses and box of chocolates. I let out a small 'thanks' and went to put the flowers in a vase.
"Would you like anything?" I asked, coming back, "Water, tea...coffee?"
"Coffee would be fine. Thanks." I nodded and went to the kitchen to make a cup for him and myself.
~~~
"I lied." Nick said once I've given him his cup of coffee and sat down with mine.
"About what?" I ask curiously.
"About my name." He takes a long sip of coffee as if he wants to make his next take dramatic. I give him a look. "My first name is Nick, but I don't like people calling me by that name, and since I'm know by the name Dylan, my middle name, I go with that."
I nodded, processing what he had just said. "So I can't call you Nick?"
"No! I mean, you can, I don't mind. I actually like it coming out of your mouth."
I blush after hearing his words. I raise my coffee cup up to my lips to hide my smile, but then I'm reminded of another question Nick had yet to answer. "How did you become a millionaire CEO, just when you were a taxi- driver six months ago?"
Nick gave me a long look as if contemplating the answer to my question. "I was a taxi-driver six months ago, but then my uncle passed away and left his company to me since he wasn't married and didn't have any kids. I knew how the company worked since I worked with him on an internship program the summer once I was done college."
I nodded and asked one more question, hoping I wasn't pushing my limits. "How old are you exactly?"
Nick smirked, while his green eyes were gleaming mischievously. " Twenty-eight." After a pause, he asked, "Enough questions about me. It's my turn now. How old are you?"
"Twenty-six"
After that, Nick and I's conversation flowed smoothly. We started to talk about anything and everything. I started to notice how his eyes would crinkle as his green eyes shown with laughter or how his fist would clench as he talked about something that made him upset. How he would run his hand through his dirty blonde hair, messing it even more up, when he felt flustered or nervous.
We talked for minutes until those minute became hours. Soon the sun was setting, painting the sky a color of red, orange and yellow with a faint hue of pink. I looked over at the clock and saw the time.
7:32 P.M.
Nick seemed to notice travel his gaze to where I was looking and stood up. "I should go."
I nodded and lead him to the door. I wasn't too good at goodbyes but we ended up exchanging numbers and a hug before Nick left. I crashed down on the couch and laughed thinking about the things Nick and I discussed.
Suddenly, I remembered the note and what Nick had said about it when we were dancing at the Crystal. I scrunched up my face in thought. I could've sworn he left a note on the nightstand in my bedroom that night he dropped me off saying 'Thanks for the night.' I clearly remember putting it in the drawer below it after reading it. In the end, I decided to fetch the note myself, but when I opened the drawer and looked at its contents, I couldn't find it. I decided to look all over the place, knowing I didn't throw it out, but nothing.
The note wasn't there.
