   New York.

People say it's dangerous walking down the streets at night in the city.

And I couldn't have agreed more.

"Taxi!" I called out, flailing my arms in the air for the passing by cab to halt, yet again.

Unfortunately, it didn't.

Yet again.

I let out a string of curses as the taxi passed by me, driving over a puddle making the dirty, muddy groundwater splash on my new dark, mid-thigh length navy blue dress. It wasn't a lucky day for me anyways and the noise coming from the club behind me reminded me of the real reason I was here in the first place.

To get drunk.

I'm starting to get a wave of déjà vu here.

I let out a sigh, remembering how just a year ago I had been walking out of this same club drunk and single and how I had met Nick in his taxi.

Nick.

It had been three whole months since I've last seen him. We hadn't contacted each other just like we agreed upon. I'd be lying if I said that some nights I didn't feel lonely and missed him but I had to respect his wishes. Besides, we agreed that it's temporary; only for now.

I just had to figure out how long the phrase 'for now' meant.

It was like Nick disappeared from the face of the earth after being released from police custody. He wasn't even at Jullian's trial. I could clearly see Jullian guilty about what he did so Seth suggested doing the same thing he did with Nick; he erased the evidence and Jullian was set free.

Granted, business is slow at ROZ&CO because of Jullian's reputation now, but nonetheless efficient. Jullian and I have still have been on friendly terms and every day. I can see him guilty for what he did to Nick. Every day he asks me if Nick has contacted me so he can talk to him, but I guess Nick had changed his number.

A sudden gust of wind brought me out of my thoughts and I wrapped my arms around myself, trying to keep warm. I walk aimlessly through the streets, having no destination in mind. A rumble of an engine is occasionally heard as a car passes by me.This time though, I brought pepper spray with me and luckily I'm wearing sneakers.

I let out a sigh when I heard footsteps behind me.

Not again, I thought.

Luckily I clutched the pepper spray in my hand and took it out of my purse while sprinting across the pavement.

Once again I thought, my high school gym teacher would've been so proud of me.

I slowed down my pace when I heard the footsteps grow fainter. I let out a sigh when I realized I'm on the block where apartment is located. I start power walking to it, determined to get there before someone decides to rob me of my dignity again.

Seeing the apartments' entrance brought a smile on my face. As I touch the handle to open the doors, a honk startles me. I turn to look behind me at the driveway and see a taxi.

Not it can't be him Ashley, I try to assure myself.

But when I saw the familiar mop of dirty blonde hair getting out the car, my heart almost stopped. I slowly walked closer as he slammed the door shut to his car. A nervous expression was playing on his face as he approached me. When we were face to face, he looked at the ground sheepishly.

Maybe there is a future for us this time, I thought.

As if reading my mind, he looked up with a determined expression.

And I found myself staring at those same gleaming green eyes once again.
