Starting Up Again

This morning when Dad was getting ready to take us to school and go to work he wasn't so enthusiastic about it like he normally is. He was all lazy like when he was making breakfast. He didn't even remember to put salt in the eggs. I just told him he was getting older and left it with that.

Dad's only 32. Mom died when he was 28 so just imagine how young my mom was when I tell you she was three years younger than him. Yeah. She was only 25 when she died.

He was so depressed for 2 years. I could never cheer him up. Not even on his birthday.

On his 30th birthday, Aaron and I threw him a big surprise party. He just sulked the whole time then went up to bed. Meanwhile, the rest of the guests were having a great time.

Dad handed me my lunch.

"Thanks Dad." I pecked him on the cheek and headed out the door.

Aaron was in his own car so I guessed he wasn't going to be driving with us today. He was probably going to go pick up Melissa.

"Hey Aaron. Are you going to ride with Dad and me?"

"No, sorry Tiff. Gotta pick up Melissa. Bye!"

He drove off.

Dad came outside.

"Hey Dad. Aaron went to pick up Melissa."

"Okay. So just over to Wadsworth Middle School?" he asked me.

"Yep. Just to my school."

"Okay Let's go."

He hopped in the car.

I texted Gwen on the way over:

'Hey Gwen. Meet me at the flag pole at recess.'

She responded:

'Hey Tiff. Got it. See you there.'

I looked up. Dad was parking. But this wasn't my school.

"Uh, Dad? What're you doing? This is the high school. Not Wadsworth Middle School."

"It is? Oh. Sorry honey. Just a little more tired than usual."

He drove to my school.

"Thanks Dad. Love you!" I waved at him and hopped out of the car.

That was strange. He always knew the difference between the high school and middle school. He must have really been tired this morning. I headed inside ready to start the day.
